I wrote this poem when I was a senior in high school. I submitted it to be published and they did! I have not located the certificate yet but if I remember right I received Editor’s choice. 🙂 No money was won but I was happy to be recognized!
Our local paper even did a story on it and published my poem. I have yet to figure out where I put that. I am in the middle of reorganizing so hopefully I will come across it again.
The Book it is published in. I bought a copy.
A total of 3,207 entries were published. 🙂 I feel honored to have won an award. 🙂
The Poem
Once Upon a Time
Started me and you were just friends
Because you were insecure
You wouldn’t let your feelings show
You pretended to notice nothing.
Made like I didn’t care
Reaching out for something
Pretending it was there
Now I’m left with nothing.
You acted like you cared deeply
Talking about the weather to us
Having tons of fun together
Then saying it was passing time.
Eyes that once danced, now drown in tears
Tearing at the love in my heart
Remembering too many bad lies
There’s never been a good goodbye.
