Writing Challenges

My first NaNoWriMo challenge was November 2012. It was the first official beginning of my book #1 – Obeyville Snoop. I accomplished 5,510 words. My creative mind was not appearing for the challenge. I did have fun beginning the book, but lacked the discipline to write every day. I had post-it notes, apps on my phone, and to do lists reminding me to write but it didn’t help. I set the draft aside.

Then I saw Camp NaNoWriMo pop up in an email for April 2013! I had to do it. I could not resist. I went top speed on the first book again. The words flowed. I won with 50,219 words! Yay! It felt wonderful! I read afterwards what I wrote and couldn’t stop laughing. Nothing fit together. Definitely,ย a first draft!

Feeling inspired I signed up for July 2013 camp and began the second book in the series “Snoop In Overdrive.” Didn’t go well. Zilch!

Signed up for November 2013. Zilch again on book #2.

April 2014 rolls around, sign book#2 up and wrote 10,095 with a goal of 30,000 words. Thought maybe shorter novels would be better for me.

November 2014 I signed up book #2 again. Didn’t add any words. In fact, I tried revising first what I had written. Bad thing to do. Needed to finish it first.

Seems like the November challenges are not good for me. No creative spark. Maybe my mind is more interested in the holidays.

I skipped April 2015 but decided to do July 2015 with Book #1 revisions. I had already chopped so much out of Book #1 over the last year that the goal was now 25,000 words. Yep, short novels might be better for me. I revised a second time only 7,262 words.

Signed up again November 2015 with book #2. Zilch. I can’t stop signing up! LOL. It is like a habit now. Need the writing to be a habit. ๐Ÿ™‚ We will see about this year. Maybe this will be where I finally stop signing up during November. LOL

I signed up for this April’s camp! It is going SOOO GOOD!!!!

I have officially revised everything I had cut long ago in Book #1. I am at 22,104 words with a 25,000 word goal! I feel great! Now comes adding the last 2,896 words from scratch. Which I am OK with because the book needed a different ending. I think I have been so hung up on that part and is why I never finish.

Lots of thinking and writing tonight!

The book will need a final complete revision but not because of the plot this time. The BONES are there! Finally!

Kudos to all you authors that can write several novels in a year. Maybe in the future for me but I don’t think this decade! LOL I’ll be tickled pink to finish this series of three books!

Maybe by 2018! ๐Ÿ™‚

If all goes well, I hope to have Book #1 self published this summer and dive into Book #2 in July! Fingers crossed! I feel the writing muse is around me.

Have a great weekend! I hope to have great news on Sunday or Monday! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Data Zone

I love data, numbers, stats, etc. Anything that contains numbers. Perhaps that is why I stayed working as a bookkeeper for almost seventeen years. Or it could have been the lovely friendships I developed with my co-workers.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚ Miss them lots.

If I could have my choice of a paying job it would be data entry. Note I put paying job!ย ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Writing is my fun, creative, non-paying job.ย ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Perhaps it will pay nicely someday. I do write some for pay but the assignments are few and nothing I could live off.

But it does help buy a few books!ย ๐Ÿ™‚

My love for data began in my early twenties when I landed a temporary job inputting soil data for an agriculture company. Long numbers of data! I’m weird but it was fun. The co-workers and owners were awesome! The best ever Christmas party was by them out of all of my jobs thus far.

A dinner theatre! It was a Neil Simon’s play, Barefoot in The Park!

Loved it! The juicy steak for the meal was the icing on the cake!

It was sad when the temp job came to an end.

I almost changed my major in college from Pre-Architecture/Interior Design to Statistics. I like math, I just don’t love it enough to study it mainly. I got to have my art!

Have you always wanted your original career or job?

Busy As A Bee

The last few weeks have been as busy as can be. At least I am keeping myself busy. I have painted walls, organized cupboards, decorated, and done some editing and writing on the two books in progress.

I feel much better about my accomplishments.

I was lagging for several months. I hope to keep this going in the new year! ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It was fun here. It was hubby and the two youngest sons. The two older kids couldn’t make it. Sad face, but understand. They do get to come home the week of Christmas and New Years! Yay!

I am dreading the driving in KC to pick up the sailor son. Normally, hubby does that driving and work is overriding that one this time.

I have faith.

I can do it.

Garfield is how I feel aboutย driving in KC. But I will do it to see my son!

Now, I will have to learn to cook for six again for a week! That could be interesting! LOL… Normally, during the week I cook for three and then the weekend for four when hubby is home. I don’t always get it right then. LOL

I look forward to making more memories with all four kids home! ๐Ÿ™‚

I had this great plan of starting Christmas shopping way early this year in October. I even put it on the calendar to remind me every Friday.

About that, didn’t happen.

I thought about what gifts to buy but that is as far as it went. I suppose I am meant to always be a last minute shopper! I even had ideas for some homemade gifts. Didn’t happen. Sigh.

How early do you shop?

Books, Shelves, and More

My current books on one lonely shelf. ๐Ÿ™‚

20151008_223658ย (Basement outside Creative Cave Room, JC)

This wall will sometime in the future be my rows of shelves for my books. I have not brought all my books from the Puzzle House yet. I am waiting until this is done so we don’t have to work around them. I have well over 1000 books. A few years ago I cataloged all but the paperback Harlequin novels on a phone app. I lost the app when I changed phones.

Bummer. I will catalog again one day. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think I will bring the Harlequin novels here, thinking I will keep them at the Puzzle House. After all, need books there too!

Summer%202012%20094[1]ย (Puzzle House, Oberlin)

This is my library at the Puzzle House. I miss those shelves. Hubby did a great job making them. Once all the books are off I need to sand and put a clear coat on so I can actually dust them. It is rather difficult dusting right now because the cloth sticks to the shelve. I didn’t sand only painted. I’m thinking of doing some wire doors in areas of the shelves. I think that will be neat looking.

Currently this room was our master bedroom. We are now going to make it our living, library, storage closet (to the left there which was my walk-in closet) and TV room. ๐Ÿ™‚

20151009_121310

My favorite collection is my V.C. Andrews novels. I am behind on buying them and way behind on reading the new ones. ๐Ÿ™‚ I first read My Sweet Audrina in Jr. High. I was hooked. I have only read this one and the Flowers in the Attic series. Yes, I am way behind on reading all the other series. I kept buying them because I knew I would read them someday. I think that day is coming.

Do you buy collections or series?

My Current Read

image

I discovered this author a few years ago when I went to the library. I love her writing. Simple, fun, and mysterious. She has wrote a ton of books. It will take me forever to read them all because I like to mix up my authors since there are many good ones.

This year I am going to read both ebooks and the good ole hand around the book. Last year I read mostly ebooks because there are many new authors and I couldn’t stop downloading them.

I didn’t make my reading goal last year but I have a good feeling that I will this year.

Happy reading everyone.
