Writing Challenges

My first NaNoWriMo challenge was November 2012. It was the first official beginning of my book #1 – Obeyville Snoop. I accomplished 5,510 words. My creative mind was not appearing for the challenge. I did have fun beginning the book, but lacked the discipline to write every day. I had post-it notes, apps on my phone, and to do lists reminding me to write but it didn’t help. I set the draft aside.

Then I saw Camp NaNoWriMo pop up in an email for April 2013! I had to do it. I could not resist. I went top speed on the first book again. The words flowed. I won with 50,219 words! Yay! It felt wonderful! I read afterwards what I wrote and couldn’t stop laughing. Nothing fit together. Definitely, a first draft!

Feeling inspired I signed up for July 2013 camp and began the second book in the series “Snoop In Overdrive.” Didn’t go well. Zilch!

Signed up for November 2013. Zilch again on book #2.

April 2014 rolls around, sign book#2 up and wrote 10,095 with a goal of 30,000 words. Thought maybe shorter novels would be better for me.

November 2014 I signed up book #2 again. Didn’t add any words. In fact, I tried revising first what I had written. Bad thing to do. Needed to finish it first.

Seems like the November challenges are not good for me. No creative spark. Maybe my mind is more interested in the holidays.

I skipped April 2015 but decided to do July 2015 with Book #1 revisions. I had already chopped so much out of Book #1 over the last year that the goal was now 25,000 words. Yep, short novels might be better for me. I revised a second time only 7,262 words.

Signed up again November 2015 with book #2. Zilch. I can’t stop signing up! LOL. It is like a habit now. Need the writing to be a habit. 🙂 We will see about this year. Maybe this will be where I finally stop signing up during November. LOL

I signed up for this April’s camp! It is going SOOO GOOD!!!!

I have officially revised everything I had cut long ago in Book #1. I am at 22,104 words with a 25,000 word goal! I feel great! Now comes adding the last 2,896 words from scratch. Which I am OK with because the book needed a different ending. I think I have been so hung up on that part and is why I never finish.

Lots of thinking and writing tonight!

The book will need a final complete revision but not because of the plot this time. The BONES are there! Finally!

Kudos to all you authors that can write several novels in a year. Maybe in the future for me but I don’t think this decade! LOL I’ll be tickled pink to finish this series of three books!

Maybe by 2018! 🙂

If all goes well, I hope to have Book #1 self published this summer and dive into Book #2 in July! Fingers crossed! I feel the writing muse is around me.

Have a great weekend! I hope to have great news on Sunday or Monday! 🙂

Spring Time Changes

I have stayed busy and consistent with editing every day for Camp NaNo! Makes me feel great! 🙂 I know another edit will need to be done after this challenge because there are some boring holes to fill. Oops.

I feel confident! I am energized to get er done! 🙂

I updated my blog as you can see. I think I really like it. It is clean and easy to read. I can change the colors easy as well. The header proved a challenge with my blog title but I finally found one. I think I will make me some for the next update now that I have my Illustrator program back. I love that Adobe does monthly subscriptions now. Though it does stink to pay for one program for almost the same price for the whole set but my computer graphics card can’t handle it. I do need to learn lots more on Illustrator so that is ok. I do miss Photoshop but maybe once I can upgrade the graphics then I can get all the programs again.

I did something I thought I would never do, I deactivated Facebook. I thought if I am going to get my HUGE list of things done I better do it. I feel rather good about it. I doubt I am missed. I didn’t have much interaction from people. I will miss other people’s updates but I must get things done. It was easy to pass an hour or two reading everyone’s. LOL.

I can hear “Lazy” the cat meowing so I better get out of the Creative Cave and give him some attention! I don’t allow the cats in here and it bothers them. Too much to knock over and “Emobear” loves to chew on PAPER! Go figure! LOL. My tummy is growling.

Have a splendid week!

A Mile Marker…100th Post!

100th-Post1 (credit to Bing.com images)

My stats says this is the 100th post so it better not make a liar out of me. 🙂

My grandpa always said I was “windy” growing up. I never thought when I began this blog that I would get to this point in two years time. I congratulate those that can blog several times a week. I suppose in time I will get to that point, maybe.

My problem is I think of something fun to blog about, discuss it with my “thoughts” and then I forget what it was when I finally sit down to write it. I have a small notebook but forget to jot the ideas down. I guess I should start putting scratch paper everywhere. 🙂

OR

I could place my post-it notes around the house.

14 - 1 I have plenty!

I can usually recall a memory from a few notes so the small ones would be plenty big. I can write pretty small.

Actually, that jogs my memory from school days.

I can remember a few of us girls going through a phase of seeing how tiny we could write. It drove the teachers nuts! The writing was nice and neat, so I don’t understand why they frowned handing the paper back.

Of course, now that I am that age, I do see the problem. I imagine after grading tons of papers the last thing they wanted to see was something so small they needed a magnifying glass to read it. 🙂 It sure was fun though.

I almost messed up blogging about my 100th post. I did those two reblogs, about did another, when a little light bulb went off in my head and I remembered I was about to hit the 100th!

Phew, that was close.

I meant for the 100th to be my first book cover reveal, but I am still working on it. I am also working on my edits. I am over halfway done. When I edit, I edit one chapter at a time. I actually end up editing it close to four times if not more.

I do my crossing out in red,

type it, reread,

retype, shake my head a few times,

talk to myself about how ridiculous that sounds, grab a Pepsi, watch some detective movie,

reread, retype,

daydream the scene with me in it. (LOL), go on to next chapter.

I will come back after a few chapters and read from the beginning till the end of my editing. I can not seem to do it in one sweep from the beginning to the end. In fact, I can not tell you my ending as of this moment. I wrote it a year ago. I’m weird. 🙂

I’m hoping to be ready to hit that publish button by the end of the month. Hopefully, the movie watching won’t delay that. 🙂

I want to start the next book during Camp NaNoWriMo in April. The books are part of what will be a trilogy. I rocked it last year so I have a good vibe about this year!

I like writing in the warmer months better than the colder months.  The last two years, November through February, I have not been inspired to write my book or edit it. I call it my vacation time. 🙂 Sounds good to me.

I have been struggling with the question of, will anyone like my book? I think that has made me slow down on editing the most. I hope people will like it, but at the same time, I am writing it for me first. I have wanted to write a book since I was in junior high.

I am thankful for the technology of e-books. I will complete one dream because of it. 🙂

When was the first time you wanted to publish a book?

I did it!

Novel

I accomplished my first rough draft! I hit the 50,219 word count last night. It feels great! I will soon be editing and looking forward to bringing you some sneak peeks at my new novel. I am planning on a June time frame for self-publishing. It was fun writing, but I am glad to have it behind me for awhile. This weekend I am going no where near the manuscript. 🙂

Thank you to everyone who encouraged me. It helps just having those few people out there that believe in you. I am one step closer to checking off a dream come true, a published novel!

Have a great weekend everyone! Mine starts tomorrow! 🙂

Progress Progress and Progress

This was me last night!

I began writing in the afternoon and didn’t stop til 1:00 a.m. I was on a roll. I thought I could be someone that would write a little bit everyday. I found out I am not. I am one of those people who write when the light bulb goes off. It seems once I start I don’t stop til I run out of steam. I wrote last night 9,817 words and enjoyed every minute of it.

There was one point when I did this little dance of a neck stretch and hubby burst out laughing at me thinking I was acting out my writing. I had to explain that no, I was a bit stiff from sitting there the last few hours. 🙂

My total word count for Camp NaNoWriMo is…..drum roll…….30,011! Yippee!

I only need roughly 20,000 more! And less than a week to do it in. Panic, nah, if I can do that word count in one night I believe I will reach my goal! ONLY IF……

I don’t get stuck! LOL!

I can do it, I can do it! Repeat….I can do it.

Camp Nanowrimo

????????????????????????????????????????(Bing clip art)

I am doing so much better on this challenge for my novel-writing. The story line is coming along better than it did the last five months. I am still shooting for the 50,000 word mark for this month of Camp Nanowrimo. My total word count is now 10,286 words as of yesterday! I couldn’t stop smiling seeing that I have already way surpassed the initial 3,000 word count that I had done last November. Big smile! 🙂

I have found if I take my mini laptop away from my desktop computer I get so much more writing done. I don’t care to web surf on the mini laptop so it is not a distraction like the desktop computer is. I have tried to handwrite first but I admit I like checking that word count tool way to much. 🙂 It tends to be my motivator. I like all the likes I get on here and my Facebook page. It has really helped me to keep going. They are small numbers but that’s all I need to motivate me. I thank all of you. 🙂

I use the WriteWay software and really enjoy it. I do not use all the features, I tried at first and just didn’t like the electronic use of note taking. I have a mini notebook that I keep all my short notes in. I guess you could say I am all about paper when it comes to the note process but all for the electronic way when it comes to writing. I have found that all the research on outlining sounds like the way to go but this ole brain just isn’t into it. I am all about sitting down, daydreaming, and then writing the story. In fact, I am backwards in doing all of it. Once I am done with a chapter I print it and put it in the three-ring notebook I have titled Novel #1 . Then for each chapter I fill in all the note taking on the characters and scenes. Yep, backwards. I guess that is the way my mind thinks. My grandmother always said I did things backwards and she is right. 🙂

Once I complete this novel, then I will do all the wonderful editing and polishing from the printout chapters. I get to play teacher and mark all the bad grammar and silly scenes that tend to happen when putting thoughts to paper. My goal is to be able to self-publish this on my wedding anniversary, June 22nd. It has been the best day of my life and has brought so much good things I figured it might bring some good vibes for the book. Even if people don’t like my book, I will feel like I achieved my long time goal of publishing a novel. 🙂

It will be the first in a Trilogy series. I  intend to begin the second book in July and then the third one in November since it is a Trilogy. My favorite number is three and so I may be a little OCD about it, but it is also kind of fun to have hidden meaning behind the book. Afterall, it is an adventure book with many secrets unfolding throughout the story. The best part is the year is 2013, a three in the end so I believe it is the year to do this. Plus, I have to get a job next year, so not as much time to write then. LOL

I’d like to say I should have done this a long time ago, but in reality, my heart and thoughts were not in sync before this year. I don’t know if it is because of the changes in my life or just life in general slowing down a bit. I know it helps not working outside the home at this point.  I feel it in my bones that now is the time. I’m going to give it my best shot. 🙂
