Desks Are A Must

I am constantly rearranging my workspace in the Creative Cave. It seems I figure out what works and doesn’t work, or could it be I get bored with the layout.

🙂

I decided my old desk was not working for my creative inspiration.

I love the desk but it was blocking areas that could be used for more stuff. You know that crafting stuff that sits and never gets used.

🙂

I did not get rid of it, the youngest son is using it in the other room for his computer. Works good for him. Lots of room for his snacks which he ignores to take upstairs when we tell him to. Grumble.

I am very thankful that my hubby is handy with making things for me. I am constantly finding something for him to do for me. Sometimes he jumps right on it and other times he does that selective hearing you know.

🙂

Glad to say this time he got right to my request of building me a simple desk area.

🙂

Loving it!

I wanted to add some flare to it, so this is what I came up with.

I used the same duck tape that I used on my art table. It also covered up the screws that were used to put it together.

🙂

I have been using the desk for a few weeks now and I do believe I have accomplished more. It has lots more room to clutter up anyway.

🙂

It also gave the room a wide open area in the middle so I don’t feel closed in. Perhaps, I will do some exercising there. Perhaps….

🙂

Hubby gives me a hard time by saying I have the whole basement practically besides his man cave. Yep, pretty true. LOL

Eventually, stuff will be whittled down and then I won’t have so many areas. Technically, I have three creative caves.

You snooze you lose I tell him.

Do you have a woman cave or man cave?

Book 1 Chapter 3

large

(credit to Bing.com images.)

Normally, I’m good with faces, so I can’t believe I don’t remember him that is if he is speaking the truth. It could be a way to toy with me.

“I don’t remember you.”

“I worked for a local farmer in the summer of 1999, you came out to the farm with a girl, she had blonde hair and blue eyes. Can’t remember her name but I didn’t forget you. We hung out on the farm and then went to a party that night.”

“Hmm, the friend has to be Dorie but I’m not remembering the farm or party.”

He looked at me with the most amazing grin on his face. My heart did a flip-flop like I have never felt before. Why did that just happen? What is it about those blue eyes that make me weak in the knees?

Mystery man walked over to me. He leaned on the table inches from my face. I could feel the warmth of his breath on me and smell the sweetest cologne. This man should make my blood boil with rage not set it on fire with lust. What the heck is wrong with me? He snatched me.

I stood up and stepped back. My heart racing and my hands shaking.

(credit to my daughter, it is her.)

“I do not remember you, I’m sorry. I just want to leave.” I spoke.

“I don’t know if leaving would be too wise. See, when I found you a man had been chasing you and when I went out earlier he was still out there only with several others. I am not the guilty one. I put you in that storage closet in case he happened to come to the door asking questions. You were hidden in there if he would happen to come to the door.”

I don’t know if he is telling the truth. I was knocked out. I suppose in a way it would make sense. Explains not being tied up and that he allowed me to come out and eat. No guns lying around. Now what do I say or do.

“Well, then I thank you for not leaving me there for him. Remember falling and my head hurting. Sorry. But how did you get me away from him if he hit me?”

A loud bang came from outside that made us both jump.

He ran over, grabbed my arm and led me back to the storage room. He shut the door behind us. Motioned for me to be quiet. He locked the door gently and put his arm on mine as if to tell me to stay still.

A knocking came from the front door. The door knob began turning. Several footsteps echoed on the hardwood floor. No one spoke. It’s like they knew we would be hiding.

I could feel a sneeze coming. Crap. Doing everything I could to hold it in. I sneezed my funny half sneeze. Mystery man covered my face up in case there was another one coming. I normally do sneeze more than once, luckily this time I did not. Did he remember that from years ago? Why can’t I remember?

A pair of footsteps came to the storage door and tried the knob. When it wouldn’t turn, the person tried shoving on the door but luckily it didn’t budge.

Mystery man motioned for me to follow him on hands and knees to the back of the room. He opened that metal box that smelled awful.

He motioned for me to crawl into the box. I shook my head no, not in that smelly thing. He motioned again with a rather angry look and whispered get in. I peered over the side of it and saw the bottom had been opened and there was a ladder leading down below. Just like out of an adventure novel! I smiled. Did my best to not think of the smell.

I climbed in. Placed my foot on the ladder rungs one after the other praying that they were not old and rickety. I looked up to see him closing the lid after him and locking it from the inside. Then when he got past the bottom of the box he closed that as well and sealed it with an extra bar lock.

It was airy and pitch black. It smelled musty and I could hear running water. My feet touched ground. After he was down, he took my hand and he led us closer to the water sound.

I hope those guys above don’t find the box. I wonder how this place got here. Many questions popping in my head. Exciting. Terrifying.

His hand feels warm and fits perfectly around mine. I don’t want to let go.

He dropped my hand, bummer.

Mystery man lit a small candle and placed it on a wooden table against the wall. He started opening tubs searching for something. He found a flashlight and shone it in my eyes. Bright light.

“I was hoping it wasn’t dead. We will head further down the tunnel just in case they find the passage way. I don’t think they will but better to be safe than sorry.” He said looking at me and then blowing the candle out.

“Why didn’t you just lock me in the room and answer the door?” I asked, thinking why go to all this trouble.

“Several of them, one of me if things went wrong.”

I didn’t know what to say or think. I am floored. This is like out of a spy movie. I guess I got my adventure I was wanting.

I shook my head in agreement and began to follow him down the cold, dark cave like tunnel. Just where it leads and what the story is behind this, I can’t wait to find out. My heart won’t stop racing from the unknown and Mr. Blue eyes.

Spring Time Changes

thCAQ7ISXQ(Credit to Bing.com images)

I have stayed busy and consistent with editing every day for Camp NaNo! Makes me feel great! 🙂 I know another edit will need to be done after this challenge because there are some boring holes to fill. Oops.

I feel confident! I am energized to get er done! 🙂

I updated my blog as you can see. I think I really like it. It is clean and easy to read. I can change the colors easy as well. The header proved a challenge with my blog title but I finally found one. I think I will make me some for the next update now that I have my Illustrator program back. I love that Adobe does monthly subscriptions now. Though it does stink to pay for one program for almost the same price for the whole set but my computer graphics card can’t handle it. I do need to learn lots more on Illustrator so that is ok. I do miss Photoshop but maybe once I can upgrade the graphics then I can get all the programs again.

I did something I thought I would never do, I deactivated Facebook. I thought if I am going to get my HUGE list of things done I better do it. I feel rather good about it. I doubt I am missed. I didn’t have much interaction from people. I will miss other people’s updates but I must get things done. It was easy to pass an hour or two reading everyone’s. LOL.

I can hear “Lazy” the cat meowing so I better get out of the Creative Cave and give him some attention! I don’t allow the cats in here and it bothers them. Too much to knock over and “Emobear” loves to chew on PAPER! Go figure! LOL. My tummy is growling.

Have a splendid week!

Peaceful Swinging

20151110_131844

My swing is up! Thanks to hubby! I have had that swing for years. Originally was going to hang it at the Puzzle House but since we are not there as often I brought it here. We have the perfect porch for it. I wanted a privacy wall though because the neighbor’s kitchen table is right there. I felt like I was spying on them. Or maybe that I felt like they were spying on me. 🙂

I need to paint the privacy wall. We are changing the porch railings to a grey. I have yet to decide to paint it grey too or come up with something unique and pretty.

It is nice to go outside and relax!

Love swings!

20151110_131854

Hubby is going to put up another privacy wall on the end there as well. Eventually, we are putting up a fence and don’t want anyone jumping into the backyard from the porch. 🙂

I am getting a little writing done on my second book. Not as much as I would like but at least I am writing. The Creative Cave has cooled down with the cooler weather. I think I write better when it is cool. Basements are good for that. 🙂 Perfect spot for the cave!

I did not get around to posting my Halloween decorations so I will post those and the Thanksgiving one. I don’t like to skip Thanksgiving, too many pretty colors and we should be thankful for all that we have. 😉 I didn’t decorate much outside so no photos there. Hopefully, next year add to decorations for outside.

20151027_22231820151108_151040

Love having a fireplace to decorate! 🙂 The cats only attempt once in a while to get the decorations. They don’t like the water bottle! Or me clapping my hands loud! It is kind of fun. 🙂

Happy writing or whatever you are doing today! 🙂

Turn The Lights Down Turn The Volume Up

The Media Room. AKA The Boys Cave as my youngest likes to call it. 🙂

The beginning it was storage.

The walls began going up, then the fun of mudding and sanding. Hubby had that fun. 🙂

Painting stage! Hubby painted and I did the touch-up. We are not perfect but I think it looks nice. In fact, compared to the pros that did this house our flaws are not much different from theirs. Sad. I would think the pros would blow us away. 🙂

The almost finished product. We love how the stain turned out on the baseboard and around the entertainment area. It really goes with the flooring we chose. We went with a new versalock vinyl plank. It was simple and it is water proof! A big plus! It required snap and go! No gluing! 🙂

The two end shelves have yet to be done but it will be covered in wood and stained to match the rest. 🙂 The cats have already claimed it to sit on. 🙂 Eventually the flooring will be the entire basement other than the storage area. We will add a drop down ceiling so we can still get to all the plumbing and ductwork. 🙂 I’m sure problems will arise.

Looking at the drop down ceilings, they have really made them look cool and sound proof. I like that. I saw that one could even paint them but I think we will leave them white to bring out some light.

The boys are enjoying their space. It solved the problem of electronics in their rooms. 🙂 Yay!

Now, if only I could find the right comfy furniture. 🙂 A couch is out of the question because the stairs turn and it is a mess to get things down there. I’m thinking comfy chairs or a lounge chair.

Pondering it. 🙂

Organizing Fool

528260_10151719790525847_281673478_n(Credit to Bing.com images)

I have been very slowly organizing my new Creative Cave. Organizing it means the rest of the house gets some organizing done. Nice to be able to put things in its own place. I had not realized how much little “stuff” I have to find a place for it.

Unfortunately, I have not done any writing and only a little bit of reading. I feel that will change here soon. I am at least getting to the point where I can get back into that. I am one who is a creature of habit. I need to make it a habit in my daily routine. Part of my problem is beginning the day with a TV show I like and then that leads to another and another. Slap my hand, hide the remote!

Update on beautifying the yard, only mowing is getting done. The weather is still unpredictable so I have not tried planting any flowers yet. I think this next week it might be ok. The hubby and I are going to plant some tomatoes so we can make salsa and pasta sauce with it for the winter time. We eat quite a bit of this so hopefully it will save us some money. 🙂

Our trips back to the Puzzle House will start soon. We would have been back already to work on yards and houses but so many things going on here personally it has prevented it from happening. We are so thankful for the family helping keep on eye on the places for us. 😉

It is hard to believe the boys will be out of school for the summer soon. But that also means baseball season begins for them! Yay! They will be on the same team so that means not too many nights at the field.

That is a wrap for this month! How has your month or Spring been going?

Creative Cave Accomplished!

CC 3

My view from the Creative Cave and the computer desk area. Rather cloudy and gloomy day but I like watching the clouds. The sun tries to peek out once in a while. It will be fun to watch it rain. 🙂 Earlier today I watched seven military helicopters go by and then four more flew by. 😉

Yesterday, I saw the prettiest blue bird on the tree that is to the left but behind the trampoline. I did not make it in time to get a picture. Darn it.

Eventually, the trampoline will be moved once we have it tied down to stakes in the ground. The wind gets pretty vicious around here. I see a lot of trampolines destroyed in the neighborhood so we are going to tie ours down good! 🙂

In the future, we will put up a fence then I can plant some pretty things to look at through the window. But for now, I will settle for the sky. 🙂

I want to try my skills at making a fairy garden that will be outside the window. building-garden-3

I foresee something like this in front of my window! 😉

I think it might spark some creative writing.

Hubby wants to put mostly decking out back so this would work pretty good. Step off the deck to the fairy garden! 🙂

Happy dreaming everyone! I need to get back to organizing my Creative Cave!

Hubby says, no excuse to write now!

True! 🙂

Memories Can Be Inspiration

The current novel I am writing, Obeyville Snoop, centers around a mysterious underground cave system. In the middle of this cave is a stone town. The discovery leads to adventure and surprises.

cropped-8046327355_2f5b63ba911.jpg Credit to Bing.com images. My picture inspiration for my story.

The inspiration of this story came from a childhood memory of mine. About sixth grade a few of my classmates and I discovered the remains of a burned down house on a hill located in town. The shell of a door remained that led to a downstairs portion of the old house. At the end of the steps to the right a dirt tunnel led to a round dirt room.

The rumor was the man who had lived there was paranoid about a war starting in which we would be bombed. He built the underground tunnels and room so he could hide. We only found the one tunnel and room but there looked to be a possible other tunnel which was caved in.

Being the young kids we were we would sit in the round room and play Truth, Dare, and Double Dare! 🙂 We would be goofy but also try to scare the crap out of each other. On one side of the tunnel there was a tube-shaped object that looked as though it fell into the dirt from the house above that burned. I suppose it was a tank of some sort but we convinced ourselves it was a bomb missile that did not go off. It was more interesting to a sixth grader. 🙂

What remained of the house above was a few framed walls and scattered household items. A pair of overalls hung on a nail on one of the walls and we liked to believe it was the man burned up.

Imagination overload!

It made for fun after school exploring for a while. We stopped going up after we opened our mouths to our parents. Can you believe we listened? I like to think we spooked ourselves away. 🙂

I never did return to that spot and as far as I know it remained like it was until a couple built their beautiful home over it. This happened after I graduated, left for six years, and then moved back. So many times I wanted to walk up there and ask if they caved everything in. My imagination likes to think they restructured the tunnel and room and it is now under their house.

How cool would that be? 🙂

If you like this memory, I think you will enjoy my novel when it is finished. Thinking back on this time in my life I really think that’s when my imagination took off on its own adventure and my love for mysteries, adventures, and the unknown sparked my love of reading books. Those books ignited many daydreams in which I was the main character. I wish I had written notes on those dreams. I would have lots of material for stories and novels. 🙂

Doing research I came across this article by Stephen Wagner.

It is cool to think the possibilities of other discoveries. Granted a few stories are pretty far-fetched but that’s what makes a great adventure novel! It is one of the reasons I love to write. Love making up fun stories.

I hope my imagination will entertain many, if not at least a few.

Stay tuned, I will update as my novel progresses!

( If you click on the blue title, Obeyville Snoop,  it will take you to my website which will have the link to buying my book eventually.)

2014: One book and one ebook. Goal is 52 books this year. (I only read 25, bummer.)

2015: One book and one ebook. I like the change from the electronic to the real deal of a book. Soon my creative cave will be done and I can bring the rest of my books from our other house. I use to buy them all the time but most I have never read. I have well over 1000 books. 🙂 I will probably bring only the hardback ones and the series paperback. I have tons of Harlequin books but think I will keep them at the other house. Way too many to bring here. Plus, need something there to read. 🙂 Goal this year is 40 but secretly hoping for more.

Creative Cave is Coming!

image

The beginning of my creative cave!

I am excited. I think hubby is too so I can get everything out of our bedroom. 🙂

I think it will spark me to write and do my art more.  🙂

My writing is coming along with the first novel. I have not begun the second novel yet for NaNo but that is OK. I feel really good after doing the edits on the first novel which had me dragging my feet for so long. It is already giving me more ideas for the second one. I know I will still have to do polishing edits but at least the structure is better than when I wrote during NaNo a few years ago. I kept putting off the edits because I was not happy with the story line. Of course, I shaved so many words out, it is now a mini novel. LOL

I think that will be ok. I like reading long and short novels so I hope others will too. 🙂 I may not be cut out for writing long novels, at least not yet. I think in time I will become better because I have read lots of new author books and they have really blossomed from their first book.

I think I want to release them close together so trying really hard to get it done. Perhaps in February and then April. This story is a trilogy so part three will be wrote after the release of the first two. The third may take a little longer but definitely be released in the Fall. 🙂

My goal!

If I do not write another blog before Thanksgiving, Happy Thanksgiving!
