Art Eases The Stress

Transform 2

I have been playing in Illustrator the last few hours. I learned a bit more about the Transform Tool. Pretty cool. Mine didn’t turn out like the video but isn’t that what art is about, creating your own flare. 🙂 LOL

Transform Geometric 1

I love playing with colors and gradients. My main love in High School was coloring geometric designs. Still love to color them but Illustrator is even more fun. 🙂

Have an awesome weekend everyone! Praying for all those in the hurricane areas and the fire areas. Wish the stuff wouldn’t happen. Hugs to all!

Kids Spark Thoughts

IMG_20170722_144608 I believe this bridge was at St. Louis but my memory fades at times. 🙂 I had the joy of driving through there when we went on our trip to see the oldest son in South Carolina in July. I knew I should have labeled the pictures that night. Guess that is what I get for thinking I would remember for sure. 🙂

IMG_20170725_144915 I do know this one! It is at Charleston, South Carolina by the Aquarium.  Love bridges. It was a nice day as well. I could sit by the water and watch the ships move about all day long if I was allowed. 🙂

The bridges bring me peace and calmness. I needed that right now after the afternoon today.

Nothing terrible, just the stress of getting two teenage boys their class schedules. Took the youngest one and his friend to the Freshmen school first. My tenth grader decided to wait in the car. 🙂 They have the Freshmen in separate buildings because the High School is not big enough to hold them all. It is in a way neat, because the military kids on base join them because there is no High School on base. This is a way to get to know one another better. I think last year it added about 150 kids to my middle son’s class. Pretty good amount of new students.

The school is three floors. I tried to explain to my son if you find all your first floor one’s at once then go to the second floor, etc., it would be the easiest to do. He wouldn’t listen. He even got grumpy butt with me. Perhaps, his logic was fine with going in the order of his classes, but mine was logical for this old lady to walk three floors in the most logical way. 🙂 I went through the first day of classes but then when he decided to do the second day’s classes I retired to the hallway close to the front doors.

They had really cool rocking chairs that looked like desk chairs. Now, where were those when I was going to school. I even had a great little conversation with a young grade school kid. He was cute. He loved the rocking chair too. 🙂

Then it was off to the main High School to find the tenth grader’s classes. Boy was that fun. Whomever designed that school decades ago made it insane. We had half floor levels before you got to the second floor. Weird. There was no logical movement around the school because you had hallways branching off here and there. I think those were done because they were additions at one time as the population grew. I was lost. At least my son knows where his first class is and a general idea of the other classes. I hope.  He is shy so he doesn’t ask many questions. Sigh.

I hope the new school passes this Fall. They need it. Not just because of design problems but it is faltering in many areas. The funding is there but of course you have those that can’t see why spend that much money on a school. It is not an area that is decreasing in population so it makes sense to build a new one.

The middle school the boys went to was built around the early  90s I believe and it is so nice. They built it like a half-moon where each grade has its own area and then it opens up into the cafeteria, auditorium, and two gyms. They actually hold all the teacher learning seminars there for the district.  Their grade school was new as well and was designed like the middle school. Guess we will see what happens.

Then my tenth grader comes down to my escape room and says I can’t find my class schedule. Really? Not even five hours and you have lost your schedule. Shaking my head. So the hunt was on. He found it in the trash. Shaking my head again.

Here is to hoping the school year goes well for us and everyone in blog land. 🙂

Glue Mess Gets Duck Taped

Duck Tape the desk My own photo! 🙂

Courtesy of my cellphone and a new app I discovered, BeFunky App. Love it!

My hubby built me my very own Creative Cave in the basement. He also gave me his old table he used for building his big model airplanes. He had knocked over a bottle of strong glue onto the table last year. We tried lots of things to get it off but only accomplished most of it.

I pondered for months what I wanted to do to cover it up.

Duck Tape!

Throughout the year I had seen the square sheets in several stores and thought yes! We went to Menards tonight to get some other supplies for remodeling the basement and I caught a glimpse of these. I knew that was what I wanted to do. I bought only three sheets for now to see how it looked and what design I wanted to go with.

I like it! 😉

I will continue the pattern the rest of the way across the table. The sheets were 1.99 each. Cheap design idea plus no mess or smell. I like the bits of wood still in the areas I won’t cover up. I hope the corners will stay down if not I will find more duck tape! LOL 🙂

I like the feel of it too. It covered up a few splinter parts as well. It will be easier to clean than the wood since the wood is not stained or clear coated.

Sometimes one needs to ponder awhile. Me, it seems like it takes months! LOL

Hope you have a great weekend, I think we will! We are going to go to my hometown fair where our other home is at. 🙂

More work to do there. Sad thing is we have not made it back much this year so it is in major need of cleaning and work. 🙂 That is ok, we will get to have fun in the evening at the carnival. Home owned and operated by local volunteers. I hear they added two more rides! 🙂

I can not wait to have a funnel cake and a pork burger!!!!

This Little Teapot

I drew these teapots several years ago in college. I had them in a sketchbook and decided to finally put some color to them. I decided on watercolor pencils. I have always enjoyed doing the cross-hatching technique so I did that with the pencils. I have yet to put water to the color but will do that soon. I was anxious to hang them up and put some décor in my kitchen.

This is what it looks like hung up. 🙂

I have plenty of room to add more which there are a few more drawn in my sketchbook. I would like to find some teapot pieces to add dimension to the space. I picture copper ones that are half a teapot. I know I have seen those somewhere.

Eventually, I plan on painting the kitchen a different shade of yellow. It needs touched up. The house is only five years old but I believe several families lived here in those years so it is in need of repainting. 🙂 All in time.

I bought the picture frames at the $1 store. I had to laugh at how cheaply they were made when I placed the drawing inside. I just hope someday they don’t fall down on someone. 🙂 Hey, they look alright. I might even paint the frame a shade of orange later. Still pondering that one. 🙂

I love decorating, just wish I had plenty of money to do it. Don’t we all? 🙂

Have a great day! The sun is shining here and a wonderful 49 degrees. Crazy for January.

Be Still My Beating Heart.

My cell phone rang this morning, which is pretty unusual. No one calls me, really, no one. I glanced at the number it was an in state one, so thinking, I better answer it.

This morning my son Jessup was trying to get out of going to school and thought maybe it was the school calling saying his “cold” got worse. He was not liking that younger brother had no school and thought it only fair that he could stay home as well.

Sniff sniff this morning. I said no and took him to school. 🙂

Well, the number ended up being a lady from the IRS!

My mouth dropped and I about fell off the chair. My heart started beating fast and I really wanted to hang up but thought I better not. She went on to tell me that my business was being audited for the last three years and if I got the paperwork in December. I said no, that goes to our permanent address and during the winter we shut the water off and don’t go back until spring. I said we are military and live on the other side of the state currently. She replied oh, ok. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? No, I guess if I did, I probably shouldn’t say so. 🙂 She asked a few questions, I must of gave the right answers, and she said this will take care of it.

Wow, I had always heard horror stories. My business is small so maybe that helps. 🙂

My first audit ever. I have had the business since 2002 so I think that is pretty good odds of not being audited until now. 🙂 Even if, it would have been more intense, I have everything documented and don’t take off any expenses that don’t need to. Plus, I know there are other things I can take off but I don’t because I am not sure about them and I like to keep it simple and honest. 🙂

Originally, the business was a computer repair and graphic design business. As things changed over the years it dwindled down. Last year there was no business but I kept the license and will change it over to my writing and art this year.

It was a blank slate for taxes this tax year. No sales and no expenses were taken off. Depending on if we stay here I will then change the address but until we know for sure the business remains at home. 🙂

But boy, it had my heart going. She really was a nice person. Hopefully, if ever a next time, the person will be nice too. Don’t know about those odds.

Have you had any dealings with the IRS?
