Puzzle Madness

This is how I spent my Sunday afternoon. I began about 2pm. It is a 3D puzzle and boy did it play with the eyeballs. One had to sometimes pick up the piece to see all the colors in it. It was a challenge. I bought the puzzle to make myself enjoy something that wasn’t electronic and to encourage my family to help as well. I can remember when I was young in grade school putting puzzles together with my Grandma Marie. It is some of the best memories I have of her. She taught me to start with the outline and to turn all the pieces over so you can see them. If you get stuck on one part look for another color to begin working on. I even had a sixth grade teacher that would allow us to put together a puzzle once our homework was done. You bet I worked madly so I could go put that puzzle together. He usually had those enormous puzzles with a million things going on it. Loved them. Grandma and I mostly put together landscapes and those were challenging because of all the close colors and many pieces of the same color. I believe both taught me a much needed skill of patience and determination to succeed. I can even look at a piece and picture it in the slot and know it will or won’t fit. I’ve played some of the electronic puzzle games and yes they are fun but there is something special about putting one together by hand. It could be just the wonderful memories I have of who I put them together with. I truely miss her.

I sat and put that puzzle together with hardly a break. I even forgot to eat. 🙂 I was bound determined that I was going to finish it that day. My boys even sat down and began to help. I loved it. They even forgot about their computers for the evening and stayed helping me. They got a bit frustrated because of the 3D part, but they soon figured it out. I told them the next one I will get a regular puzzle to give our eyes a break. I like 3D stuff but staring at them for a period of time is not fun.

We finished the puzzle about 10:30 that evening, thank goodness there was no school for the boys the next day. 🙂 We are going to glue it together and hubby is going to make a frame for it. I so enjoyed putting the puzzle together and shouldn’t have taken so long to make myself do it. I love the fact the boys enjoyed it. Now the hunt will begin for our next puzzle.

Pink with some bumps

The final project on the wall. I love it. It adds some color where there is no color. My solution to not being able to paint the wall. 😉

My finished “Love Tree”. I put the sticker hearts for the leaves. I will someday make me an actual Valentine tree. A small one. I don’t want to go all crazy like Christmas or anything. I think my hubby would say NO. 🙂 What is a tree without some rocks and flowers beneath it.

I have to say it was brutal doing this one. The hot glue gun attacked my left thumb. I have a nice little blister but at least the pain has subsided. I like this one because it has the three hearts for my sons, the top rock heart is my hubby, my heart is over his with the sticker hearts, and then my daughters heart is the bottom rock heart with the pretty pink beads in the middle.

I love playing with paints and found objects. I love that it consumes my time so I don’t have to do housework, at least for the moment. 🙂

Cheers to 2013

January 1st, 2013
I am always happy to see a new year here, mostly because it holds promise for the coming year and one can say good bye to the last one. We all have our ups and downs but I can not say that 2012 was a bad year for me. My hubby and daughter were overseas for half the year but they came home and that is what matters. My hubby and I and the two younger boys relocated for the army and that so far has been an adventure. I think change is really nice at times. We still have our home in my hometown which makes it a little easier that we can go home if we want to. I think we all have had a fun time making new memories in our home away from home. The oldest has created a life for herself that is doing good for her age and I could not be more proud. We have had our quarrels but it seems since she has returned from overseas, she is army as well, that we have all put it behind us because we know time is too short together to be fighting, and we have had a pretty good last six months. The oldest son finished his first semester of college life and while he seems to have been a bit lonely, I think he also had some learning experiences. I see a much better semester ahead for him and if not, then we will take the next step to figure it out with him.

I did lose my dad this last summer to cancer. I do miss him but I know and hope he has a better life in the beyond wherever that may be. I have good memories to out way the bad. We were not always close but he will always be my dad. I regret the fact that I had not seen him since 2009 so losing him was really hard knowing that I had not made the effort to see him. So in that learning lesson, I will make sure to see my immediate family as much as possible if not in person, by phone, by computer, by mail…..etc.

As March approaches, it will be a year that I have not worked, by choice, and while it has been a real different thing for me, I have enjoyed it. I wish at times I could have done this when all four kids were little but then I would not be who I am if I had. I love to work so eventually I will go back out there in the crazy work force. I am taking this opportunity to make a go of my writing and art. It would be wonderful to have a successful career at that. I have been doing research and learning new things as much as I can. I have now developed a schedule for myself and my resolution is to stick to it! 🙂 I love that this world of the internet opens so many possibilities, now to just grab a hold and enjoy the ride!
