Welcome New Year 2016

Howdy everyone!

I hope the holidays were good and filled with lots of memories. It was wonderful here. I did get a cold but I nursed it with lots of orange juice and chicken noodle soup. 🙂 My grandma always treated a cold that way. Thank goodness it lasted only a week.

We had a house full. The daughter was able to spend a little over a week with us. She also brought her two cats along. It was fun watching our three cats mingle with them. Of course, the cats favorite person was my hubby. He has that way with animals. He gives them lots of attention.

The oldest son made it for a week on leave from his Navy training. His oldest friend from high school joined in the fun and stayed as well. It seemed like old times. 🙂

I did not get any baking done for the holidays though. Bummer. I think I missed that last year too. Hopefully, this year will be different. Though the boys did say they would give up gifts if we could go somewhere for Christmas. Cool. Though that will be more expensive than the gifts. We don’t give expensive gifts normally.

Normally we give a few things that they want, money, and some fun childhood gifts like foam dart guns. LOL. We like to bond and laugh more than give expensive stuff. Plus, it takes the pressure off of spending more than the budget can handle. 🙂

We leave those expensive gifts for during the year so the kids can learn to help save up and pay for them. I know all their friends got these cool gifts but I’d rather them work towards them than be handed them. Plus, we have had Christmas’ where we could barely afford a fifty dollar gift let alone the high dollar ones. I don’t want them to be disappointed from Christmas to Christmas. I’d rather set the tone for a low key Christmas than bounce from high dollar to low dollar. I’ve tried shopping early, it don’t work. I’ve tried saving up, it don’t work. LOL This way works for us. I’m glad other families can do what they want to do, so I don’t look down on those that spend a lot. This is just what works for us. 🙂

Most Christmas’ hubby and I do not exchange gifts especially when the budget is tight. We usually get something we want a few months later. 🙂 Hubby spoiled me. I must say it is also a gift for him. He bought me a new used car with low miles. Our other one was starting to have issues beyond what he wanted to repair. He was worried about me breaking down with him on the road a lot. And with all the dings and dents in the old car the value was declining for a trade in. I will just need to do some creative cutting back on the food. No problem! Two growing teenage boys. LOL

He also got me a lounge chair for my Creative Cave! Best gift ever!  He now has a place to sit when he bothers me. LOL  It worked nicely for a bed for the daughter while she was here too. 🙂

I really love how it turns to a lounge chair. Reading chair! 🙂

He also got me a pretty glass item for my curio cabinet. I didn’t take a picture. Too many stairs to run up. 🙂

I promised him his big TV as soon as we can. 🙂

I hated seeing everyone leave but we must all get back to normal routines. 🙂

I will say I’m ready for Spring now. 🙂 I got my first bulb and flower magazine in the mail the other day. Ready! Where is Spring?

2015 in review

Thank you everyone! 🙂

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 9,600 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Cheers to 2014!

Happy New Year!

My New Year’s Eve was spent in my cozy little living room under my warm and fuzzy blanket. 🙂 The two younger boys went to an all night roller skating party, the older boy at his girlfriend’s, and that left hubby and I some quiet alone time. We spent it watching movies! 🙂

We thought of going to watch a movie but we couldn’t agree on one we both really wanted to watch. I think we both were just not wanting to go. After we dropped the young ones off we stopped at Sonic for a yummy sundae! 🙂 After stuffing our faces we headed to the movie rental place. We ended up with 5 movies of different categories.

We watched two movies and the last one was in the middle when midnight hit. We were a bit late wishing each other Happy New Year. If it hadn’t been for the fireworks going off in the neighborhood we probably would have missed it completely.  🙂 One of our neighbors had some fun with those, they lasted awhile. We didn’t even get up to look.

Like I said, warm fuzzy blanket. 🙂

We were about twenty minutes late sending a SnapChat to the oldest daughter wishing her happy birthday! She has a lucky New Year’s Day birthday. No, she wasn’t the New Year’s baby, she was second to be born in the hospital that day. 😦 I tried.

Hubby picked up the boys bright and early on New Years Day and they were all smiles from the fun they had. We then sent them directly to bed for some rest.

Ah, more quiet. See we planned this right. 🙂 We continued some more movie watching and hubby made us cheese and ham omelets. Yum!

I also put cheese, chili, and little smokies into my neat little three crockpot gadget. All day today we snacked on nachos and little smokies. What a meal. 🙂

It also lightly snowed!

Even though our evening wasn’t full of exciting things, it was nice. It was nice to have hubby here and the kids happily doing what they enjoyed. I would like some year to visit New York and see the ball drop. I think that would be fun. One of these years I would like to throw a party with friends where we can enjoy games and maybe even some beverages. 🙂

I’m glad every year is a bit different how we celebrate and not the same thing every year.

As for resolutions, I mostly just want to be happy and healthy. I suppose that means I better pledge to eat better and to exercise more. I guess beginning the New Year with nachos and smokies wasn’t the way to start the healthy resolution. I guess I also bombed the exercise part with planting my bum on the couch. I suppose this is record breaking time in breaking my resolutions. Ooops. Oh wait, I was happy! Yay I kept one! 🙂

I wish everyone the best of everything in 2014! I am happy to have crossed paths with everyone one of you in some way! 🙂

Never regret, regrets make unhappy people.

Cheers to 2013

I am always happy to see a new year here, mostly because it holds promise for the coming year and one can say good bye to the last one. We all have our ups and downs but I can not say that 2012 was a bad year for me. My hubby and daughter were overseas for half the year but they came home and that is what matters. My hubby and I and the two younger boys relocated for the army and that so far has been an adventure. I think change is really nice at times. We still have our home in my hometown which makes it a little easier that we can go home if we want to. I think we all have had a fun time making new memories in our home away from home. The oldest has created a life for herself that is doing good for her age and I could not be more proud. We have had our quarrels but it seems since she has returned from overseas, she is army as well, that we have all put it behind us because we know time is too short together to be fighting, and we have had a pretty good last six months. The oldest son finished his first semester of college life and while he seems to have been a bit lonely, I think he also had some learning experiences. I see a much better semester ahead for him and if not, then we will take the next step to figure it out with him.

I did lose my dad this last summer to cancer. I do miss him but I know and hope he has a better life in the beyond wherever that may be. I have good memories to out way the bad. We were not always close but he will always be my dad. I regret the fact that I had not seen him since 2009 so losing him was really hard knowing that I had not made the effort to see him. So in that learning lesson, I will make sure to see my immediate family as much as possible if not in person, by phone, by computer, by mail…..etc.

As March approaches, it will be a year that I have not worked, by choice, and while it has been a real different thing for me, I have enjoyed it. I wish at times I could have done this when all four kids were little but then I would not be who I am if I had. I love to work so eventually I will go back out there in the crazy work force. I am taking this opportunity to make a go of my writing and art. It would be wonderful to have a successful career at that. I have been doing research and learning new things as much as I can. I have now developed a schedule for myself and my resolution is to stick to it! 🙂 I love that this world of the internet opens so many possibilities, now to just grab a hold and enjoy the ride! Happy New Year everyone!
