Blueberry Muffin Murder

This book is set in Lake Eden, MN. It is about a young lady named Hannah who co-owns a bakery named The Cookie Jar. She has a meddling mom who can not stay out of fixing her love life. Hannah is seeing two men. One is a cop and the other a dentist. She can not decide between the two. 🙂

Hannah tends to find dead bodies more than the average person. In this story the town people are getting ready for the big Winter Carnival when she finds the first dead body. The boyfriend cop warns her to stay out of the investigation. The cop has also named her other boyfriend as a suspect. Hannah can not believe it and thinks he is jealous of the dentist boyfriend. She does what she does best and begins to investigate. She also has the help of her realtor sister, Andrea. Andrea’s husband is also a cop. They do not let either cop know what they are doing.

Through out the book Hannah whips up her cookies and muffins and delivers them while questioning people along the way. The recipes are listed in the book for the reader to try them out. 🙂 They are simple and look yummy. I wrote them down and will give them a try. 🙂 If I can bake them, anyone can. 😉

The book is fun and entertaining with lots of great characters and plot twists. There is a whole series of these books by this author. I have read a few and enjoy each one. Eventually, I will read them all. 🙂 I discovered the author while visiting the local library.

Creative Cave is Coming!

image

The beginning of my creative cave!

I am excited. I think hubby is too so I can get everything out of our bedroom. 🙂

I think it will spark me to write and do my art more.  🙂

My writing is coming along with the first novel. I have not begun the second novel yet for NaNo but that is OK. I feel really good after doing the edits on the first novel which had me dragging my feet for so long. It is already giving me more ideas for the second one. I know I will still have to do polishing edits but at least the structure is better than when I wrote during NaNo a few years ago. I kept putting off the edits because I was not happy with the story line. Of course, I shaved so many words out, it is now a mini novel. LOL

I think that will be ok. I like reading long and short novels so I hope others will too. 🙂 I may not be cut out for writing long novels, at least not yet. I think in time I will become better because I have read lots of new author books and they have really blossomed from their first book.

I think I want to release them close together so trying really hard to get it done. Perhaps in February and then April. This story is a trilogy so part three will be wrote after the release of the first two. The third may take a little longer but definitely be released in the Fall. 🙂

My goal!

If I do not write another blog before Thanksgiving, Happy Thanksgiving!

A Mile Marker…100th Post!

100th-Post1 (credit to Bing.com images)

My stats says this is the 100th post so it better not make a liar out of me. 🙂

My grandpa always said I was “windy” growing up. I never thought when I began this blog that I would get to this point in two years time. I congratulate those that can blog several times a week. I suppose in time I will get to that point, maybe.

My problem is I think of something fun to blog about, discuss it with my “thoughts” and then I forget what it was when I finally sit down to write it. I have a small notebook but forget to jot the ideas down. I guess I should start putting scratch paper everywhere. 🙂

OR

I could place my post-it notes around the house.

14 - 1 I have plenty!

I can usually recall a memory from a few notes so the small ones would be plenty big. I can write pretty small.

Actually, that jogs my memory from school days.

I can remember a few of us girls going through a phase of seeing how tiny we could write. It drove the teachers nuts! The writing was nice and neat, so I don’t understand why they frowned handing the paper back.

Of course, now that I am that age, I do see the problem. I imagine after grading tons of papers the last thing they wanted to see was something so small they needed a magnifying glass to read it. 🙂 It sure was fun though.

I almost messed up blogging about my 100th post. I did those two reblogs, about did another, when a little light bulb went off in my head and I remembered I was about to hit the 100th!

Phew, that was close.

I meant for the 100th to be my first book cover reveal, but I am still working on it. I am also working on my edits. I am over halfway done. When I edit, I edit one chapter at a time. I actually end up editing it close to four times if not more.

I do my crossing out in red,

type it, reread,

retype, shake my head a few times,

talk to myself about how ridiculous that sounds, grab a Pepsi, watch some detective movie,

reread, retype,

daydream the scene with me in it. (LOL), go on to next chapter.

I will come back after a few chapters and read from the beginning till the end of my editing. I can not seem to do it in one sweep from the beginning to the end. In fact, I can not tell you my ending as of this moment. I wrote it a year ago. I’m weird. 🙂

I’m hoping to be ready to hit that publish button by the end of the month. Hopefully, the movie watching won’t delay that. 🙂

I want to start the next book during Camp NaNoWriMo in April. The books are part of what will be a trilogy. I rocked it last year so I have a good vibe about this year!

I like writing in the warmer months better than the colder months.  The last two years, November through February, I have not been inspired to write my book or edit it. I call it my vacation time. 🙂 Sounds good to me.

I have been struggling with the question of, will anyone like my book? I think that has made me slow down on editing the most. I hope people will like it, but at the same time, I am writing it for me first. I have wanted to write a book since I was in junior high.

I am thankful for the technology of e-books. I will complete one dream because of it. 🙂

Big Apple Hunter

Review of Maddie Cochere’s novel Big Apple Hunter

In Big Apple Hunter, Susan decides to go on a trip with her friend Darby to New York City. I love the character of Darby and his friendship with Susan. I admit at one point I was hoping for them to get together. But, as we know, well…you must read the first book, Sunshine Hunter, to find out what makes their friendship just friends.

I think setting one of the scenes in New York made the story line even more exciting and adventurous. I so loved the bus tour of men. Who wouldn’t want to tour with a bunch of hot guys?

hot_guys( Photo credit to Bing.com) This is what I was picturing when I read about bus full of guys. 🙂 hee hee

I liked the mystery of the bad guys. It kept me guessing what their angle was clear through the book. There was enough mystery to keep me reading and wanting to know the answer.

The ongoing turmoil with her boyfriend makes me wonder if they will last as a couple. I keep thinking maybe they can’t get past their previous relationship disasters. All of Susan’s encounters with available men adds to the question of whether they will stay together. I like that with each book you just don’t know.

All the characters are interesting and likeable. I had all kinds of ideas going through my head about what each character might end up doing throughout the book.  It keeps you assuming things to the end. I believe that is what makes a good book.

I loved the ending. 🙂 Just read it, no spoilers from me.

I love the author’s style, it is witty, adventurous, and easy to read. The characters are like everyday people with added adventures.  She leaves the ending at a point I am ready to read the next book. 🙂

I see with each book where her writing becomes better and better. I like being able to see her grow as a writer. I believe that is what is so interesting about self-published authors, you can see their writing develop with each book. Thank goodness for the internet.

Check out her blog! She has her own witty adventures that will make you smile. 🙂

There is even some great banners for all sorts of products for shopping. I get a small commission of what you buy. 🙂
Thank you!

I will be adding more art as I get it done! 🙂

The boys will be back in school in two days! Yes!

I have enjoyed them this summer, they actually didn’t fight as much as previous summers. A definite plus!

I should be able to get a few things more done with a bit of peace and quiet. I hope. 🙂

I tend to run into that procrastinator person once in awhile. 😦

On the writing page there is a link for my book. It is from beginning to what I have completed for editing thus far. I know some might want to read from the beginning instead of in the middle. I hope to really go full force this month and get-er done! 🙂 Only 17 more chapters to go….

Hoping everyone has a great school year, August, etc etc….don’t want to say Fall yet because I LOVE summer!

Cheerio!

Book Review for Chose the Wrong Guy Gave Him the Wrong Finger

942570_10151538567007483_1761743584_nAuthor Beth Harbison

It would really be the pits to get to the altar and find out your future spouse did something. Do you take a chance or not? I woud say this is the time you would want to listen to your gut with everything you can. I tend to ignore the gut, and find out too late I should have listened to the gut. Sigh.

The book is well written. I like reading all the thoughts of the main character, Quinn. It makes me feel like I am her and going through the situation. The author has some chapters where she flashes back to the past. At first I wasn’t sure about that, but as I read more I really liked seeing how Quinn got to the situation in the present.

The book has witty areas that make it fun to keep reading as well as conflict and struggles. I read it in an entire weekend. I don’t know if my motivation was because they mailed me an advance copy or the fact that the book flowed well from one chapter to the next. 🙂 It is a book of love, friendship, and a funny old lady meddling in a love triangle.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Chick Lit. I will definitely read more books by the Author, Beth Harbison. It will be out July 9th!

I did not give details of the actual story because I really hate it when other reviewers give away the story! 🙂

First Chapter Edit 2, 3….I lost count…any help appreciated OR hit the like button if you think it’s good!

One remarkably warm spring day, I decided to take a walk along the Sappa Creek. A beautiful creek that meanders through the south side of Obeyville, Kansas. Though these days not a whole lot of water fills the creek banks. It gets less and less every year. We need a good steady rain season, one we haven’t been blessed with in a few years now. Our farm fields are screaming for moisture and so are the farmers. If the farmers do not have a good season than they don’t buy art, knick knacks, and books in my family store. The winter brought little snow fall. It was like having spring and now spring is summer. I believe Mother Nature is confused.

The kids don’t even know what it is like to have a foot of snowfall. They think an inch is exciting. I haven’t even had to buy snow boots in the last two years. I can’t really say I miss the blistering cold temperatures but a good snowfall would be great. I miss sledding. My friends and I would slide down the steep creek bank which would zoom us across the frozen water to the other side. We would giggle all the way and hope the ice wouldn’t break. It wasn’t but a foot deep but it would freeze one’s buns.

I like to explore, it makes me feel like I am ten again with no concerns. I suppose you would think a twenty-five year old woman would rather be chasing men and hanging out in bars, not me. I would rather be outdoors and learning. I’m like a sponge, soak in every bit of information I can. I have an entire room in my house devoted to books. I call it the Library Cave, some people have Man Caves, and I have a Library Cave. Yes, I am a nerd. A reborn nerd. I did my share of partying and being on the wild side in my High School days. I want to be a nerd now, much more relaxing and better for your health, maybe not the pocket-book.

I spend my work day inside catering to customers at least five days a week and sometimes more. My parents own the store but I manage it so they can live their golden years fishing or whatever they want. I’m a good child like that. Nah, I just didn’t want to go to college, yet. I know someday I will just not in the mode.

I appreciate my customers, but once in a while you get that one bad apple to ruin the day. So then I come down to the creek and stand in the middle of the thick lush trees and yell at the top of my lungs to get my frustration out. The fresh air and exercise are an added blessing. A wonderful stress reliever. I sometimes bring a book with me and sit in one of many trees along the creek and get lost in the story. I imagine I am the main character and it becomes one adventure after another. Sigh. If only life was that way.

I walked to the edge of the bridge and made a sharp right turn where a well-traveled grassy path led into the dense trees. It’s a wonder that I actually like to come down here because I really am extremely afraid of snakes. Luckily, I have not come across one, alive or dead. As I walked along the path I had to keep shoving the branches out of the way. They are really getting overgrown, mental note to trim them back a bit next time.

A shiver ran down my spine from the increasing chill of the shade trees. I wish I had brought a jacket. When I stepped out my front door after work, the sun beat down on my face feeling rather warm and it didn’t occur to me that the thick of the trees would be a different story.

The branches were snapping loudly under my tennis shoes, at least I was smart enough to not wear sandals this time. The previous adventure the sticks kept poking in through the sandal holes. On the right side of the path I saw the old crooked tree that we would play truth, dare, or double dare when we were in grade school, it was coined the Love Tree, hence all the initials carved in it. I touched the initials that I carved into the tree of my first crush. Ah, the memories.

I looked at the base of the tree and saw sting weed was growing there. A person gets their skin next to that and it is like itchy non-stop for a few days. I actually laid in some without thinking once, never again. Itched in places no person should have to scratch.

A twig snapped behind me. I twirled around.

“Who’s there?” I asked.

No answer, and I couldn’t see a thing. Instant panic. I could run down the path I was going down, but then I will go deeper into the woods and may not find a way out. Whoever it is, came down the path I had. I looked around for a big tree branch to defend myself. Crap, all baby twigs.

Next thought, was to drop to the ground and get as low as possible, maybe then he won’t see me. Sting weed, I don’t want to go there again. It made me itch just thinking about it. The shadows of the trees are pretty dark, I can blend in with them.

Another twig snapped.

I could see a shadow of one person. He was tall, masculine built, and wearing a hat and far enough away I couldn’t make out the face. He slowed his pace down. I moved behind the tree. I hope he didn’t see me or is far enough behind me that he may not even know that I am here.

Duh, I spoke, so he has to know the general direction. Idiot I am, number one rule don’t ask the hunter if they are there. Looking behind me I could see a fallen tree along the ground. I can crawl across which leads to the other side of the creek. The creek is barely full of water so I can walk across anywhere to get back to this side. Then maybe work my way around him and get back to the path and run like crazy back to my house. My house is only a block away, an easy run. I can get help then.

I ran for the log. Oh, please let me get out of here. I didn’t hear him moving anymore. I stepped up on the log which was big enough for both feet side by side. Thank goodness it is only a foot above the water or this girl would say the heck with it and take her chances with the mystery man. Objects in the air with little walking space is so not my thing.

I wobbled a bit making my heart race. I kept thinking about him being right behind me and grabbing me. I got to the end, stepped off the log and turned around to see if I could see him. If I can’t see him then maybe he can’t see me. The early spring leaves on the trees created a maze of hiding places. I couldn’t see anything and could only hear the sound of the breeze on the tree tops.

I ran along the creek a good few minutes and then jumped across a narrow passage of water to get back to the town side of the creek. I didn’t bother to look back. I had one goal in mind and that was to get back to the path. I was running through the tall weeds, praying for no snakes, I heard the sound of feet hitting the ground behind me. My heart pounding and my mind telling me to run faster. I felt a hand grab my arm and I swung around, losing my footing and falling to the ground. My head smacked the ground with a thump, and then the world went dark.
