Flower Explosion

I decided to learn more about my Illustrator program so I signed up for Skillshare. I love the mini classes.

What would we do without videos these days?

The first class I took was Digital Illustration: Doodles to Designs by Jon Burgerman.

First the teacher had us draw doodles. The first one was doodle with your eyes closed!

Looks like a two-year old scribbling, but it was fun. 🙂

Second one we had to doodle what we know.

I have always liked drawing flowers. I mostly drew it without picking up my marker.

The third thing he had us turn the page as we drew and not pick up the marker.

The final drawing was a new piece of paper and trace things from all three doodles that we wanted in our new drawing.

We scanned it into Photoshop to clean up the lines and the background. A new skill that I knew was possible but was not sure how to go about it. Once it was cleaned up we opened it into Illustrator and he walked us through the Live Trace and the Live Paint option. I had fiddled with those two things but could never get them to work right.

Happy camper to know how to do them now. 🙂

I have a saved file for the basic line drawing so I can go in and do different color combinations. I am definitely going to work on more doodles so I can get more of a picture out of it than this one was.

The neat thing is you can have this put on different items like T-shirts, mugs, etc. I do have a Zazzle shop (click on Zazzle and it will take you there) that has a couple of my images from a long time ago. I hope to get more designs on there as I get better at creating.

I find doing projects like this gets my creative mode going and it is a nice break from writing and editing. 🙂

Plus, makes for great household decorations! 🙂

Time Flies!

A photo I took in the Fall of 2003. My kiddos.

I have been editing this photo today to upload it to a site that will put it on a canvas. My daughter gave me the gift a year ago for Mother’s Day. Yes, the procrastination in me showing through. 🙂 I wasn’t sure at first what picture I was going to do. I took the year to think, yes, that is the reason for the procrastination. 🙂 (It sounds good.)

I went to upload and they suggest a bigger size. I will have to play some more in Photoshop. I do like how it turned out. I tried and tried that day to get them to all look at me and they never did. 🙂 I ended up with a couple photos with different expressions. I took this with an old 35mm film camera because I didn’t own a digital at that time. It was a cheap and simple camera. This is scanned in from a photograph. 🙂

I am glad digital camera’s were invented. I still have about six rolls of film to develop from back then. I have already developed over fifteen rolls. They have turned out well, other than my terrible photo taking skills. I kept them in a box in a drawer so they were not exposed to heat or light over the years.

I love when I get them back in the mail. It’s a good thing I know the year of the surroundings otherwise I would have no idea what year they were. 🙂

Funny when you can label your years by what home remodeling project was going on. 🙂

I have a whole tub of photos that need slapped in a photo album. I haven’t even begun to print off all the digital photos. It will keep me busy. I will always have something to do on those boring days. 🙂

I really should get them done before the two older kids start having their own families. 🙂

Photoshoppin Today

My two youngest playing some flag football this last Monday night! I enjoy the game because it teaches them fundamentals and team building. It is short and sweet, game and season! 🙂

Let’s face it, just not ready to watch them get tackled by some 200 lb kid, ok, maybe 100 lb kid. 🙂

I am such a newbie with it, but it is fun to play around with. I hope to someday learn it well. I definitely have zillions of photos to practice on. I really need to get serious about it because I have no scrapbooks done and I have two older kids that are already graduated from high school. OOOPs!

I can say, thank goodness for digital!

It is much easier to keep track of those files than to take film in to get it developed. I do have about ten more rolls of film to develop. Yes, they have been developing just fine. I have kept them in a dark place for many years.

I told you I am a big procrastinator! 🙂 It is my New Years resolution every year, not to be one. Sigh. I am slowly progressing. I think by the time I am in my grave I shall not procrastinate anymore. 🙂

It is so fun to see the pictures when I do have them developed. Of course, my memory is trying to figure out when that picture was taken and where that picture was taken. Thank goodness for certain items in the background I can usually figure out the time frame.
