Family Time

IMG_20180401_150303 This was our Easter dinner. I am definitely no chef. ๐Ÿ™‚ But the family doesn’t starve either. I say you don’t like it, there is the kitchen, fix it yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚ My boys are terrible at eating fruits and veggies. They eat them just not at every meal. I always offer them. I knew the hubby and daughter would eat them so that is what I mostly made. Yummy. I don’t feel horribly full either. Lots left to snack on tonight. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not everyone likes cooked ham so I made a roast beef and bought sliced ham and fried it. It was actually pretty tasty. It was a better ham too. It will make good sandwiches later. ๐Ÿ™‚

Everyone but one ate the deviled eggs. I don’t know what it is lately with deviled eggs but I usually have a catastrophe happen. At Christmas one batch didn’t get done because I chose a different pan to use than normally so I didn’t boil them long enough. Ugh. Then the next batch at Christmas didn’t taste right, didn’t use enough of one ingredient. Double ugh. Today, several eggs ended up with holes in them, but I told hubby later that the universe was telling me that I was making too many. LOL Hubby helped peel them which was a big help so I could cut and get the yolk ready to mix. They turned out good. ๐Ÿ™‚IMG_20180401_150500 Three of the kids were able to be here. Which is great. Missing the oldest son and his family. They are quite a ways away so totally understandable. He is getting ready for his first Navy deployment. Sad. I wish him all the best and for his family as well. Never a fun time leaving each other.

IMG_20180401_151535 We still like to give Easter candy plus a bit of money now that they are older. I put a twenty under their chocolate bunnies and the middle son was being goofy and knocked his out of the way and so the secret was out. Then they thought it was the only twenty because normally we do an Easter egg hunt with money in them. This year was tight on time because the daughter needed to get to work. I said next year. They were surprised when they moved their chocolate and they all had a twenty. ๐Ÿ™‚ Love having fun with them. ๐Ÿ™‚ I will continue until I can no longer. Just because they grow up doesn’t mean they don’t get to have any fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

IMG_20180401_151326 Hubby eating his watermelon! LOL

Oh, the watermelon was sweet which surprised us being it is not in season yet.

It was a good afternoon! Glad we could eat together. One day we may not be able to, sad thought to think about. Take those moments when we can. Live for today. Have a great Easter blog land!

Milestones

The daughter was over yesterday visiting and we realized that the year 2021 is full of milestones for our immediate family.

Hubby is 60

I will be 50

Daughter will be 30

Youngest will graduate from high school, so we will have an empty nest.

Hubby and I’s anniversary will be our 20th.

Middle son will turn 20.

By golly, we need to come up with oneย  heck of a way to celebrate together. It will probably have to be the same weekend as the youngest graduating because of people’s work schedules and such. We thought it was pretty cool. I love when numbers work out.

Speaking of number things, our previous address, which is still our home away from home has the street number of 213. I like to think of it as the 2 = hubby and I and the 1 = daughter, 3 = the boys. Pretty cool. Hubby’s address back then when we were dating had the same numbers only different order. How awesome! It was meant to be. ๐Ÿ™‚

Our address numbers here are 1014. I think of it as 1 (hubby) 0 (ring) 1 (me) 4 ( the four kids) Clever huh? ๐Ÿ™‚

I kept thinking when we bought this house that it was the one, walked in and it felt like home. Didn’t realize until after when looking at the address for something that the numbers once again added up to our immediate family size. I believe our homes have been meant to be. ๐Ÿ™‚thCAMC67X8(image credit to Bing images)

Any cool signs for you?

Time is Flying!

A fun image to the blog post. ๐Ÿ™‚

I stayed up late last night, like tonight, and went through a few CD’s of digital pictures. It was fun reliving the memories. It is hard to believe how fast time goes by. I think this year is flown by already. I remember as a kid, thinking boy time is slow, and then adults saying wait until you begin to be an adult. Boy, they weren’t kidding.

I took the middle son to get his driving permit today. He passed! Now, the fun of teaching him. I’ve been putting that off because it’s a scary thought. LOLย  Mostly, because of how crazy other drivers drive. When the other two kids learned we were in a very small town so it was not as nerve wrecking as being in the bigger city. I could not even imagine teaching somewhere as big as Kansas City, etc.

I held off on the middle son, he is almost 16, because I felt he wasn’t ready. He did have a couple not so good grades so I wanted him to get those up first. He was pretty excited when he passed, grinning ear to ear.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

The youngest son keeps harping to get his, which he will end up with a year before middle son. I have to admit the youngest scares the heck out of me, he likes speed. LOL He does get good grades so I imagine within the next month we will let him get his permit. He will be 15 in a few months. Crazy to have two at once learning. At least the two older ones there was a nice three-year gap between them.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope I can be relaxed and not let my back seat driving come out during all this. LOL

I actually got my permit at 14 and took driver’s education. It was fun and cheap back then. I learned a bit before I was legal too. Don’t tell anyone.ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Growing up in a small town has its advantages when you have friends who are farmer kids. Many times we would go out on country roads and they would teach me how to drive. I even learned with a stick shift, but I do suck at those. I kill it a lot.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Memories are grand!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you have any fun stories from learning to drive?

Time Goes Fast

Loved this book. Lots of interesting characters that are fun and real. Friendships, little romance, and several murders mixed with time travel and a treasure hunt. Love the setting in Prague and the castles. The villain is an intriguing character with a KGB past. Lots of fun reading. Terrifically wrote! Recommend!

I had checked this out at the library and almost didn’t because it was such a long book. I actually read most of it yesterday. ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, I want to read the next one.

So far my Goodreads reading challenge is at halfway. Better than last year, so that is ok. I probablyย could read the other half of the books but we are coming up on a busy time of year. I won’t hold myself to it. I should have read more earlier in the year.

Ooops. Goal for next year.

I am glad that I am reading regularly again. For the better part of twenty years Iย didn’t read much other than textbooks and kids books. I guess that counts.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

Personal accomplishments since last blog:

  1. Normal day-to-day house and kids’ taxi service. When will the taxi service stop? lol
  2. Garage reorganized, again. Oldest daughter has her stuff in there now so it needed better placement. Now there is room for working on some furniture refinishing projects. And all the bugs are swept out for the Fall. It was bugging me seeingย all of them. ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. Kids are doing good. Good grades. Youngest had broken his school tablet but since it was an accident at school and his first warning we didn’t have to pay for it. Thank goodness. That would have been tough. Still not a fan of having school laptops. I believe in paper and pen.
  4. I still haven’t finished my Halloween decorating. Working on one wood project that will have Halloween on one side and Fall on the other. Will post when I complete this week. I’m not sure I will hand out candy this year. Our street gets really busy and one might as well sit outside and hand it out as many times as the doorbell rings. We have a doorbell camera and after a while last yearย it started going off on its own. Ghost? Maybe. lol

It’s been a bit productive. Time just flies so fast these days. I need more hours in the day to accomplish all that I want. I have stopped watching as much evening TV shows. I now catch up later with OnDemand. Lots ofย new shows. I really like Bull, Lethal Weapon, and Secrets and Lies to name a few.

I hope everyone has a lovely day and read something good! ๐Ÿ™‚

Once Upon a Time…1989

I wrote this poem when I was a senior in high school. I submitted it to be published and they did! I have not located the certificate yet but if I remember right I received Editor’s choice. ๐Ÿ™‚ No money was won but I was happy to be recognized!

Our local paper even did a story on it and published my poem. I have yet to figure out where I put that. I am in the middle of reorganizing so hopefully I will come across it again.

The Book it is published in. I bought a copy.

A total of 3,207 entries were published. ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel honored to have won an award. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Poem

Once Upon a Time

Started me and you were just friends

Because you were insecure

You wouldn’t let your feelings show

You pretended to notice nothing.

Made like I didn’t care

Reaching out for something

Pretending it was there

Now I’m left with nothing.

You acted like you cared deeply

Talking about the weather to us

Having tons of fun together

Then saying it was passing time.

Eyes that once danced, now drown in tears

Tearing at the love in my heart

Remembering too many bad lies

There’s never been a good goodbye.
