Bucket List

Far fetched, can only dream of.

  1. Visit Castles in Europe
  2. Visit Pyramids in Egypt
  3. Own a cabin in the mountains.
  4. Travel every month to somewhere new.
  5. Awesome backyard swimming pool.
  6. Own a bookstore.
  7. Own a cabin on the lake.
  8. Go up in a hot air balloon.
  9. Highly successful Author.
  10. Have my own successful stationery line.

As you can see all of this would take lots of money! I would have to win the lottery and considering I don’t play enough to increase my odds, it will not happen. But it is fun to dream about it. 🙂

pexels-photo-91409.jpeg (photo by Pexels on Google. )

Realty list.

  1. Visit castles in the U.S.
  2. Build my own pyramid. (miniature that is. LOL)
  3. Visit the mountains every year.
  4. Travel once a year.
  5. Blow-up pool in the backyard. LOL
  6. Keep buying books for my personal library. 🙂
  7. Rent a cabin on the lake.
  8. View a hot air balloon festival.
  9. Keep blogging. 🙂
  10. Keep buying stationery that collects dust. 🙂

Now realty is more likely to happen. It will still cost money but something that can be saved up for. 🙂

Do you have a bucket list?

Notice I didn’t put any real death-defying things on mine. I don’t know if I want to sky dive but it is a thought. 🙂 I am one that loves to travel and that is my main goal. We will see if time and money allows it. So for now I will do small travels close by. There are a lot of interesting sites to see that are within my own state. 🙂

Time Goes Fast

Loved this book. Lots of interesting characters that are fun and real. Friendships, little romance, and several murders mixed with time travel and a treasure hunt. Love the setting in Prague and the castles. The villain is an intriguing character with a KGB past. Lots of fun reading. Terrifically wrote! Recommend!

I had checked this out at the library and almost didn’t because it was such a long book. I actually read most of it yesterday. 🙂 Now, I want to read the next one.

So far my Goodreads reading challenge is at halfway. Better than last year, so that is ok. I probably could read the other half of the books but we are coming up on a busy time of year. I won’t hold myself to it. I should have read more earlier in the year.

Ooops. Goal for next year.

I am glad that I am reading regularly again. For the better part of twenty years I didn’t read much other than textbooks and kids books. I guess that counts.  🙂

Personal accomplishments since last blog:

  1. Normal day-to-day house and kids’ taxi service. When will the taxi service stop? lol
  2. Garage reorganized, again. Oldest daughter has her stuff in there now so it needed better placement. Now there is room for working on some furniture refinishing projects. And all the bugs are swept out for the Fall. It was bugging me seeing all of them. 🙂
  3. Kids are doing good. Good grades. Youngest had broken his school tablet but since it was an accident at school and his first warning we didn’t have to pay for it. Thank goodness. That would have been tough. Still not a fan of having school laptops. I believe in paper and pen.
  4. I still haven’t finished my Halloween decorating. Working on one wood project that will have Halloween on one side and Fall on the other. Will post when I complete this week. I’m not sure I will hand out candy this year. Our street gets really busy and one might as well sit outside and hand it out as many times as the doorbell rings. We have a doorbell camera and after a while last year it started going off on its own. Ghost? Maybe. lol

It’s been a bit productive. Time just flies so fast these days. I need more hours in the day to accomplish all that I want. I have stopped watching as much evening TV shows. I now catch up later with OnDemand. Lots of new shows. I really like Bull, Lethal Weapon, and Secrets and Lies to name a few.

I hope everyone has a lovely day and read something good! 🙂

Now, Let Me Tell You What Really Happened…

Guaita Rocca 3 (Guaita Rocca, First Tower, of San Marino) Image credit to Bing.com

I hope you enjoy my first short story. I wrote it from this picture and a writing prompt on one of my writing sites I follow. 🙂

At age 40, I was on my way to visit my first castle in Italy. All my life I have dreamed of being in an actual castle. In fact, I think in my previous life I lived during the medieval times. It feels like where I truly belong.

I did not want to come alone so I saved enough for my best bud, Simonne to tag along. She was not difficult to convince. She heard Italy and immediately said Italian men. I have to agree, seeing a few of them will be a bonus to the trip. We are single ladies.

My heart began beating so fast I thought I was going to pass out. The entrance to Guaita Rocca (First Tower) of San Marino was more spectacular in person than the travel brochure could possibly show.  Looking at Simonne, I do believe she thought the same. Wait, an Italian guide is walking towards us. A big grin spread across Simonne’s face.

“Hello there, my name is Celio and I will be your guide.”

“Hellooo.” Simonne said extending her hand to shake his. Any excuse to touch him I am sure.

I chuckled knowing what she is probably thinking. Love my outgoing, sex fanatic, and fun friend of the last twenty years. She brings the excitement to any adventure.

I think she caught Celio off guard. He was quiet but smiling. He gestured for us all to follow.

He led us through to a courtyard that had several stone pathways. One led up to the main tower while the others led to other parts. The grass was a gorgeous green. I wanted to take my shoes off and walk through it barefoot. Love the feel of plush grass under my toes. The flower beds were full of red, white, and pink colored flowers. Absolutely stunning. I could hang out here forever.

I looked to my right and caught a tall dark haired man staring at me. At least I think it’s me he is staring at. I slowly turned to look behind me. Nobody else there. I turned back to him. He was grinning. Great, he saw me do that. Embarrassing.

He began descending the stairs. He is heading this way I think. What do I say?

He reached the edge of the grass, reached down to untie his shoes, pulled them off, and stepped onto the grass. How could he have known that was what I was thinking about? I closed my eyes for a few seconds, then opened them. He was still there. I was frozen in my spot by the grass. The rest of the tour group was already up at the tower. Simonne was too busy flirting to realize I was not with the group.

It was only me and him standing in the courtyard.

“Will you join me?” He asked.

I was speechless, but my feet were moving me toward him. I bent down, took off my shoes and felt the lush grass under my toes.

Heaven.

I stopped a few inches away from him.

“Feels heavenly, yes.” He spoke again. He was close enough that I could feel his warm breathe on my face. His cologne was out of this world wonderful.

“Yes, but won’t we be in trouble for this?” I asked.

“No signs. No one here but us.”

“My name is Tawny.” I said.

“Hi, I am Alvise.” He reached for my hand and kissed it. I almost fainted.

I did not want this moment to end. A charming stranger kissing my hand just like my dreams.

“Alvise.” I repeated in a slow voice.

“Means famous warrior.”

“Oh, mine is light brown.” I touched my hair.

He chuckled.

I snapped out of my trance. What a dork I am. I can’t believe I said that. Where is Simonne when I need her? She is the smooth talking one.

“I see. Very beautiful, Tawny.” He touched my hair.

Bucket list. Castle, check. Hot Italian guy touched me, check. I can die now.

“I planted this grass. Best decision I believe. My father did not think so.” Alvise said walking around looking at his feet.

“You planted, must be the grounds keeper?”

“No. This is my castle.” He chuckled.

“But, how? This castle is very old and no one lives here. It is a tourist site.”

“True. It is my home. I do not lie.”

Ok, go with it. He is too handsome to argue with. If he wants to believe it who am I to say any different.

“Why do you allow people to tour it?”

“It is a beautiful home. I am proud of it. Plus, it brings me beautiful women like you to it.” He kissed my hand again.

His kiss is like a spell. I forget the craziness of this.

“Tawny. Tawny.”

I could hear someone faintly calling my name. All I want to do is stare at this man’s gorgeous face.

Someone was shaking me.

I looked at Simonne.

“Earth to Tawny.”

I heard her laughing hysterically.

I looked at my hand.

Bird poop! Oh gross!

I bent down to wipe it on the grass. I saw my shoes off. It was not a dream.

“Oh, girl. You look like you were posing like a statue. No wonder the bird dropped its poo on you!” She was rolling with laughter.

I glared at her.

“Alvise was telling me about his castle. This is him.” I said angrily pointing to where he was standing.

“You named the bird. Girl I need to get you out more.”

“No! He is right there. Look!”

Simonne shook her head and grabbed me.

“The bird is right there.”

I looked again, she was right. Just the bird was sitting there no Alvise. I surely did not dream all this.

I looked up where I saw him first.

Alvise was smiling. He waved to me.

“Right there!” I yelled and pointed.

“Have you been drinking without me? Shame on you.”

Why can she not see him?

“Ladies, get off the grass! It is not to be walked on.” Said someone yelling behind us.

“Sorry sir. My friend seems to have a bit of jet lag.” Simonne yanked me back onto the stone pathway. She ran across the grass to get my shoes. She shoved them at me.

“Let’s catch up to the rest. I am making headway with Celio. He has a friend too, another guide.”

I do not understand. I felt his kiss. I smelled his cologne. I did not imagine it.

The cologne. I can smell it.

“Stop. He is here. I smell him.” I turned around. No one there.

Simonne shook her head at me.

“I have got to find you a man.”

Off we went to catch up with the group. Every room that we toured, I could smell him but not see him.

“This is where Alvise spent most of his days.” Celio stated.

“Alvise? You said?” I asked Celio the guide.

“Why yes, he was the first owner of the castle.”

“But that would make him very old and dead.” I said.

The whole group busted out laughing.

“Yes, you are correct.” Celio laughed.

No way had this happened. I did not have my first encounter with a ghost.

We reached the last room on the tour. The guide dismissed everyone and started walking towards us.

“My friend will be here in a minute. He is finishing up his tour.” Celio said.

“Sounds great. I am starving.” Simonne said.

“Here he comes.”

I turned to look in the direction Celio was looking. It is him.

“Hello ladies. Good to meet you.”

“This is my friend, Alvise.” Celio said.

I did a double take. Celio saw my shocked expression.

“Yes he is one of the castle relations. Way down the line of relatives, so he is not dead.” Celio chuckled.

Alvise kissed my hand. He made a face.

Oh, good grief, he grabbed the one the bird pooped on!

“Sorry, long story.” I stammered.

“While we are eating, you must tell me, what really happened.” He winked.

No, he is not, is he?

Yes, I’m Still Here Blog Land.

I am finally feeling back to my normal self. I was pretty lazy for awhile thanks to having a nasty chest cold last month. I didn’t even read any books let alone write anything.

My mind was blank.

The last month hubby has been home more because he was going through his out processing for the Army. He was officially done wearing the uniform on Feb. 7th. 🙂 The very next day he packed away all those uniforms. It is so weird to not see them in the closet or hanging on the door.

A good note, more room in the closet! For me?

NO, well I guess he does deserve to get some new clothes.

I think the biggest change will be we don’t have to plan around the military anymore. 🙂 Yay!

I am proud of him for his service, a total of 34 years. He joined when he was 17, he was a rebel child. His dad told him to pick one and to be the rebel he was he chose the Navy because his dad was retired Army. 🙂 He was active duty for 14 years sailing on ships and seeing the world. The base he was at ended up closing down and that is when he chose to go into the reserves and go to college. He did that for a short time. He eventually got out of the military and moved back to his hometown area in Nebraska.

He went to work installing computer systems for none other than the warehouse that supplied the groceries to the little grocery store that I worked for. Low and behold we crossed paths. I believe it was fate for us to meet. He was a Navy recruiter the same year and in the same town I went to college after graduating high school. We use to go to the same places and yet we never met.

It was meant to happen. 🙂

Once again, his dad stepped in and said you really should finish your time with the military, you have too much in to not finish. So, while we were dating he reenlisted into the Navy Reserves. I had no idea what to expect. In fact, I really didn’t think anything about it. I think I just thought it was something he would go do once a month and have no effect on me. So not true.

He did many drill weekends and trainings. Once a year did the two week AT training. I got use to him being gone. No big deal. It was our way of life.

When I was pregnant with our second child, our youngest, I was at work and he walks in with this long face. My heart began to beat fast and already the tears were forming. He told me they just called him up to deploy.

I was like, what, you said it would never happen.

We didn’t know that terrorists would change that. This was in Sept 2002 before the war started. I was 7 months along. We dashed home to get things together because they wanted him in Denver the next day. It sucked.

We had been remodeling our bedroom and it was literally a disaster zone and open to the outside because we were adding on a bigger addition and tearing down the old stuff.  He did his best to clean it up and asked a friend if he could help enclose it for us since he had to leave.

My boss sent my good friend and co-worker with us so she could drive back since I would be too upset. He reported the next morning to the base to see what time he would leave. He came back and said, guess where they are sending me, Hawaii!

Oh, relief like no other.

They told him he could report back on Monday when he would fly out. Now why the heck couldn’t they have told us that on the phone. Denver was a four hour drive for us and we were worrying about everything. We headed back home and hubby spent the next two days enclosing our bedroom. He worked 24/7 on it. I helped where I could, but being big as a cow I wasn’t much help. 🙂

We already knew I had to have a C-section so it was scheduled and he was lucky enough to be able to schedule leave for then. But little Mr. Adric had better plans, he came early. Hubby missed the birth, but he was able to be there the next day.

It was one expensive plane ticket, but so worth it for him to spend two weeks with us.

On the upside, my two older kids and I were able to spend 10 days with him in Hawaii over their spring break. 🙂 My first plane ride. We were there on base when the war officially broke out in the Middle East. We all survived his 9 month deployment to Hawaii.

A few more years go by and they start talking about downsizing the Navy and making people get out. He starts doing some research and decided to transfer over to the Army. It made his dad happy.

He was able to be closer to home for drill weekends. Yes, he had to go to boot camp again. Once again, he was gone for a few months. I was becoming a pro taking care of four kids, working full time, and making sure the house didn’t burn down. I knew it was what he loved to do, so I backed him all the way.

I joked over the years that all his time away is why our marriage worked. We didn’t have to put up with each other 24/7. 🙂 I think it has made us stronger and appreciate each other more. Yes, it was difficult too but well worth it. He was military before I met him and I chose to accept it all. 🙂

At least the next deployment, we had a year to prepare. This time he did get sent to the Middle East, but to a fairly decent place Qatar. It was suppose to be 18 months but was shortened to a year. Thank goodness.

During the year before deploying there was a lot of training going on so it added up to being almost 18 months. This time I had a high school daughter, a junior high son, a grade school son and a pre-school son, and working full time. It did make the time go fast. I was glad he didn’t tell me about all the flying into Iraq and so forth until after he did it. Smart man, I would have been frazzled worrying.

About 3 years later, deployed again to the same area. He was part of a medical unit that kept track of supplies. This time there would be no flying into other countries cause they were getting ready to bring the supplies back because of the war ending in Iraq. It was to be a year deployment and was shortened to 10 months. 🙂 This time though, the daughter was deployed with him.

She surprised us her senior year and decided to enlist in the Army. We were stunned. We never once suggested it or talked about it. She was 17 so I had to sign the papers. It was with mixed feelings but yet more feelings of joy and pride. The last half of her senior year she was able to join hubby at drill weekends and participate. Two days after she graduated from high school we sent her off to boot camp. It was so hard. She has made us proud. She is currently still in the reserves and an E5. 🙂

While hubby was deployed he learned of a program where if you are at your 18 years of active time you could go active duty and finish to retire. So, he signed up. When he came home from the last deployment we moved to Ft. Riley Ks where he finished his 20 years active time. 🙂

It has been an interesting last year and half being on the active side of the military. I have enjoyed it. I am glad we didn’t have to do this all along though. I have met some terrific people but it is sad that they have to move all the time and especially with kids. I really think they could improve on that in the military, but again what do I know. 🙂

We are going to stick around here for awhile, it’s only four hours from home, so a quick drive. We like the area and boys are doing good. The oldest son has moved back in with us. He does have a good job, he swears he is going to live with us forever, don’t think so. 🙂 I think times are getting to be where kids are having to move back home unless they get lucky with roommates to split the cost or a high paying job. As long as he works and pays his bills and is out by the time we completely retire. LOL 🙂

Cheers to hubby for his time served!

No, he isn’t going be fishing and driving me nuts, he is now at school for driving trucks. He wants to truck drive. I guess I must smell because he sure wants to be away from me. Just kidding.

He says he has always wanted to and thought right now would be a good time before the boys were in high school. The company he is going to drive for has several different schedules.

He will be home regularly, I think. 🙂

14 - 1 I feel special, my very own certificate. 🙂 It is too large to scan with the scanner, so sorry about the blurriness. 🙂
