Summer is for Relaxing

I did the boys’ school enrollment today. Where did the summer go? We were not even busy. It has been a relaxing summer. The way it should be.

I remember growing up being involved in softball but the rest of the summer was being with friends and family. No crazy schedule. I went to one camp every summer for a week, dance camp. I can not fathom how the parents today put their kids in every thing they can during the summer. Which to each their own, not saying it’s wrong, but I think kids should have a relaxing summer. Because before long, they will be in the grown-up world of no more summers off, unless your job allows it. 🙂

I don’t even push a summer job unless they want it. I like the freedom of not having so many separate schedules to work with when we want to do stuff as a family. Now, come their last year of high school, I will definitely push a job so they can get ready for the workforce. To me, you are a kid once! As crazy as school years can get I think summer downtime is a must. Gives them a break. So much goes on in school nowadays. Perhaps that is why kids are stressed to the max. Maybe.

I do know once a child gets out on their own, they tend to not want mom and dad around as much. If yours does, you are one lucky family.  🙂

I also want my kids to enjoy their twenty’s. I feel this way because I had my first kid at 19 almost 20, by one month.  LOL.  I don’t regret because it did help me to grow up, but I missed out on all the young fun.

There are positives and negatives to every age you have kids. One positive to having kids young, I am a young grandma! 🙂 I can always have those fun moments in my 50s, the new 20! LOL

The best part is I can ask my kids if they want to go! I don’t have to worry about being a good influence anymore! LOL

Happy day to you all! 🙂

Updated The Blog

Decided the blog needed a new look.  🙂

A work in progress, but so far I am liking it.

It has been a hot last few weeks around here. Today we are finally getting some good rain. I hope it cools things down. Our grass is starting to turn brown.  😦

Oh, the A/C is running nonstop lately even with it on 80 degrees!

All the flowers I planted are done and gone. I do not have a green thumb. I am sure I will keep trying though.  LOL

I have not read or wrote lately. I had goals this summer to get a lot done there. Darn it. I have had some fun with the family so that is ok.

I did start a new part-time job working at home. I have been enjoying that. I am still figuring out the schedule. When you can do it anytime during the day that makes for chaos at times.

I am a HUGE procrastinator!

Not a good combo when you want to get things done. A calendar and list helps but still too easy to put things off. The only thing I hate about the new job is having to take care of the self-employment taxes.

Ugh.

I’m not sure how long it will last. I’m a ‘independent consultant’, so no definite time frame. I work for a data company so whenever the business that hired them is done with us then the job is done. Or I do crappy.  😦  But so far so good. 🙂

I believe once school starts again it will be a bit easier. Right now, too easy to lay in bed or sleep in.  LOL

I am enjoying while I can is my theory.

Welp, I need to get to work! Good thing I don’t have to go too far. 🙂 Ah the perks.

Have a great weekend!

Countdown to Christmas

Snapshot_20171212_3

Me, playing around with my computer camera. Avoiding my to do list.

Love the filters on it. This was actually animated but I didn’t get it saved that what. I am still figuring things out. 🙂 This says I have yet to write my Christmas cards, so I am tossing them around in front of me to remind me. Yea, that works. LOL

Snapshot_20171212_1

I am avoiding all the people and so have not finished shopping. Sigh. Oh, look, a bar, just what I need to relax! 🙂

Snapshot_20171212

Ok, enough goofing off, I need to get busy. I need to wrap presents that I do have before said teenage boys get home. I think I am about out of wrapping paper. Yay! I have not bought any the last few years, because I wanted them used up, so now I can buy pretty new ones! 🙂

Countdown to Christmas List:

  1. Buy gifts….ummm
  2. Wrap gifts….yay…new paper to buy.
  3. Clean bathrooms before company this weekend….ugh on the cleaning part.
  4. Vacuum, mop…….etc etc….normal stuff.
  5. Wash all bedding for oldest son and family coming home! Yay!
  6. Fit in blogging and other computer work. I consider that a break. 🙂
  7. Oh, finish decorating inside…been stalling…don’t know why.
  8. Bake….ummm….simple stuff.
  9. Get those steps in for my step challenge this month!
  10. Read my last 6 books! YIKES! Cheers to those that read way more than me, I have 27 read.
  11. Oh, do that Christmas card thingy that I really do enjoy but procrastinate about.
  12. Help middle child with homework that he keeps putting off! Umm…he must get that from me. Oops.
  13. Breathe.
  14. Eat.
  15. Sleep.
  16. Grocery shop. Ugh.
  17. Finish the budget.
  18. Finish organizing the basement so said company will have room to enjoy.
  19. Keep the towels washed and supplied in the linen closet.
  20. Do I really think I will accomplish all this? Oh, boy. Give it my best shot! Stay tuned!

Reflection

My mind has been a jumble of nothings. I have wanted to write a blog for the last month at least. Many things I could have written about but seemed on the boring side. I need to set up a voice recorder in my car, thoughts always happen the best there.

Go figure.

Then I think surfing the net will help spark a thought or two and all it does is sidetrack me.  🙂  I am going to try hard to not surf as much until I write something whether it is a blog post or on paper from now on.

Goal #1. (It is not even the new year! LOL )

I just realized the year my youngest graduates High School, in 3 years,  I will be 50 years young! Wow!

Where the heck has the time gone?

What have I accomplished?

I have enjoyed my life. Some bumps and some boring parts but for the most part it has been good. It definitely hasn’t went like I thought it would. But I would not have liked it if it had because that means I would not be spontaneous. Right? Who wants to know their future? Not me.

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Mine was good for a day.

The rest of the weekend was rather….not what I wanted. I guess 16 years of marriage can cause a few hiccups. Nothing terrible, the other half chose to do his own thing for a couple of days away from us. He is already gone during the week, so it surprised me. He always spends his time off with us. This was a first.

It wouldn’t have been a big deal if he was home all week. I could totally understand getting away once in a while. Usually, if I can’t go, then he stays.

It confused me to say the least.

As I ponder about it, it really wasn’t a bad thing.  I hope it doesn’t mean more of it will happen, then we might have a problem which will result in a swift kick in his butt! 🙂

Do you always spend time with your other half? (other than when they have work)

Wondering Minds Want to Know

I was curious about what is an acoustic electric guitar? I mean I had never looked up exactly what it was. I hear the words and see the ads but never fully understood.

An acoustic electric guitar is a guitar fitted with electrical pickups that require a preamplifier within the body of the guitar to increase the signal before it hits the guitar amplifier. These preamps may have tone controls but normally an equalizer with up to six frequency bands. Thanks Wikipedia.  🙂

My interpretation is:  Basically, an acoustic guitar sound and add the electric to beef up the volume!   🙂

Don’t you love fancy jargon when looking up how things work?  🙂

I had to read it several times.  🙂

Check out this pretty one at Guitar Center.

Data Zone #2

My next data job was for a temporary service. They placed you with companies that needed temporary help for a short amount of time. It could be a month to a few months. My first placement was with an insurance company inputting annuity accounts in their computer system.

Another awesome job!

There were four of us temps in one little room. We were allowed to talk freely while we worked. Lots of great conversations and new friendships formed. 🙂

The company was in a tall office building. I forget how many floors, but there was a lot. Elevator was my friend. 🙂 The expensive part was parking in the parking garage nearby. I eventually began parking on the side streets several blocks away and walking to the building.

Poor working woman and single mom of one.

It was good to walk off all the yummy lunches with my new co-workers. There was a nice lunch court across the street from the insurance building that we would eat at together.

The best lunches were the Friday company lunches! They would have a local food place cater in. I remember sandwiches and bbq meals. The job lasted only a month but what a glorious month.

I applied for a job there but didn’t get it. I knew it was a long shot, no long-term experience. I wanted those free Friday lunches! Best company benefit ever! 🙂

What was the best perk of a job you have had?

Busy As A Bee

The last few weeks have been as busy as can be. At least I am keeping myself busy. I have painted walls, organized cupboards, decorated, and done some editing and writing on the two books in progress.

I feel much better about my accomplishments.

I was lagging for several months. I hope to keep this going in the new year! 🙂

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It was fun here. It was hubby and the two youngest sons. The two older kids couldn’t make it. Sad face, but understand. They do get to come home the week of Christmas and New Years! Yay!

I am dreading the driving in KC to pick up the sailor son. Normally, hubby does that driving and work is overriding that one this time.

I have faith.

I can do it.

Garfield is how I feel about driving in KC. But I will do it to see my son!

Now, I will have to learn to cook for six again for a week! That could be interesting! LOL… Normally, during the week I cook for three and then the weekend for four when hubby is home. I don’t always get it right then. LOL

I look forward to making more memories with all four kids home! 🙂

I had this great plan of starting Christmas shopping way early this year in October. I even put it on the calendar to remind me every Friday.

About that, didn’t happen.

I thought about what gifts to buy but that is as far as it went. I suppose I am meant to always be a last minute shopper! I even had ideas for some homemade gifts. Didn’t happen. Sigh.

How early do you shop?
